I'm Going to Spain!

You know, I've spent a lot of time thinking about whether this university is really right for me. I've pondered for countless hours on whether I would be learning more at a university at a slightly higher level, or if that would just take away from the cultural experience I was gaining. Today, I realized that sometimes things can come together and work their way into making any situation you are in into a situation that works for you.

This university is small, so accomplishments resonate whenever something gets done that deserves recognition. Today at our Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society meeting, we finally managed to pull together a group of students interested enough in writing to bring some of their works in, read them out loud, and get feedback from other students. It was AWESOME, and I don't think it could have gone any better.

Then, some really good news. For over a year now I've been wanting to go to Spain with this program here at UVI. It's a 5-week summer program where you live with a Spanish family and take Spanish courses that count towards your degree, and you also get to tour Spain and other parts of Europe. It sounds awesome, but the first time they went I didn't have the money and the second time, well, they didn't go because they didn't get enough people. It was beginning to look like that would be the case again this summer, because only two friends and I were expressing definite interest, but today...

the coordinator said we have enough people!!! We needed at least 8, and apparently we got it because he came in and had all the confidence that we could hold the program this summer. He even said that the department was already discussing which courses to offer in Spain. It's totally on and I'm totally excited! I'm using surplus scholarship money to pay for the trip, and I'm just so happy that I finally get to do something "college-like" after 3 long years of feeling like I'm living an extension of high school!

Yay for me! I'm going to Spain!
