I probably should be shopping but no, I'm going to a jam session, singing and plucking, guitars, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, bass fiddles and XX has me hoping for a harmonica.
The evening begins with a potluck and I'm taking my Hot Kraut! Now, PLEASE do not take offense with that. My father is German and he loves this dish. I made it up so it may sound sickening to some of you.
Hot Kraut
1/2 lb. thick slicedbacon, cut in small pieces and cooked crisp, set aside
1 lb. hot pork sausage, broken up fine, browned and drained
1/2 lb. of sliced Polish sausage
1 large onion, chopped, sauteed slowly in sausage
2 celery stalks, chopped, sauteed slowly in sausage
2 large cooked potatoes cut in large chunks (or a can of new potatoes, drained)
1 can of baby butter beans, drained
1 large can of sauerkraut, drained
Transfer all of this to a large baking dish or pan, cover with foil or lid and heat thoroughly at 325. Everything is already cooked when you put it in the dish so don't let it dry out.
My dad likes his special mustard, pickles and beets and a nice chunk of bread with this....and of course....beer!![]()
I know....it's a heart attack waiting to happen.Sorry.
