Thanksgiving Tree and More

Yesterday when Tonya and her children came to my house for our Thanksgiving Feast, they brought me such a sweet present. They brought me a Thanksgiving Tree. It has many branches and each branch has many green, red, orange, and yellow leaves. Each leaf has written on it something that we are all thankful for. There’s turkey, holidays, fun, bedtime, “not homework”(I wonder who wrote that one,.), our country, games, family, candy, and lots of other wonderful things that fill our lives. We had a plan for cooking. Tonya has a plan for everything, and usually a backup plan. Well, I got home from work at 9:30 am because it was after 8:30 when I got finished and traffic was awful, so it took me almost an hour to get home after working 13 ½ hours. By the time I did get home, I had a fever and was hurting all over with a sore throat. But I talked Dan into doing the chopping and prep work while I took a nap, except I couldn’t sleep because of the fever.
We always have our Thanksgiving Feast late, around 5 or 6 pm, so the kids can have Thanksgiving with their other families. By the time Tonya got here with her children and Sarah got home from work, I was so sick I couldn’t do anymore cooking. So they finished everything up for me. Then, just before time to eat, Dan got sick, stomach and fever, so he went to lie down a while and ended up missing the feast all together. But we did have a feast! Every year we always overdo the cooking with too many side dishes and desserts. This year Tonya’s plan was to cut down of some of the side dishes and maybe we wouldn’t have so much to prepare and so many leftovers. We still have lots and lots of leftovers because we made more of what we did cook to make up for the stuff we didn’t cook. And, everyone was asking where this dish was and where that dish was. I think next year we’ll need to go back to the big spread with ALL the side dishes and eat till we’re sick as we traditionally do.
Well, I was sick and didn’t get the dressing made so Tonya made it after she got here. By the time we’d finished eating, I was really sick so I went to lie down and Dan got up with the kids for a while. I’ve been told that everyone had a great time playing video games with the grandbabies, beating up Uncle John, playing with his girlfriend, and running and yelling all they wanted. Let me tell you, one 5 year old and one 2 ½ year old boys can make some noise, not to mention 2 - 8 year olds, a boy and an girl who are best friends unless they are hating each other! I love it. But I missed most of the fun because I was sick and in bed. When I woke up this morning, I found the most amazing thing. My kitchen was completely clean, all the dishes, pots, pans, and counters clean. The leftovers had been divided up and my part was stored in the fridge, and even my floor was mopped!!!
I almost fainted. You know, my children and very good people. They are kind hearted and caring and fun to be with. And they truly love each other and us. This is what I am most thankful for.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
