Well, the price of gas keeps going up, and people are posting about it on the forums. Here's something you didn't know...the southern most Interstate running East-West in the US was closed since last week. Roughly a 30 mile stretch of Interstate I-10 was closed due to a blow out, which occurred while drilling. Here's a link if your curious....http://www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pb...711200304/1002
Anyways, the rig I'm on has had some interesting problems. We got into a situation where we could no longer drill, and we couldn't pull out of the hole. This problem was the reason that I was in last week to get a bed. My coworker stayed out while the company tried to free our equipment. Needless to say, they were unable to rescue my tools, I came back out to the rig, and we went into what we call a sidetrack situation.
When you sidetrack, you deviate your current well forcing the bit to form a new well. The earliest stages of this require us to break off from the old gear, we call it a planted drillstring, and then cement the hole below where we want to sidetrack. Something happened when we finished cementing, and we began to take on gas. This gas is under pressure, but as it comes up the well the pressure lessens, and the gas expands. Imagine a bubble in a straw getting bigger and bigger until it pushes out the contents of the straw. Anyways, we ended up closing in the hole, but essentially we had a situation which led to the earlier story with the link.
Ok, so we have been at the same depth for 3 weeks, actually we lost 1400 feet of well, and now it should be another 4-6 days until we get back to drilling. This means *** time and lots of it. Nothing to do, but sleep, excercise, and eat.
Noteworthy News:
1. The Green Bay Packers won another game on Thanksgiving. They are now 10-1 and looking very, very good for the playoffs this year.
2. Once again Louisiana State University was ranked #1 this year, and once again they lost the first game after being ranked #1...This gives me distinct pleasure as the fans of LSU seem to think they are the best football team to ever grace the face of the Earth...as usual, they are WRONG.
3. The football gods were smiling on B this week.
Cheers, B
