Short Note

This week my husband was down East on business. Everything was fine until Thursday. I got a call from a very muffled-sounding man, yet it was him. Strange. He started off by saying, "Now, don't get upset but....."

NEVER SAY THOSE THINGS TO YOUR LOVED ONE!

As it turned out, he woke up Thursday morning with severe pains, pains that he thought was his appendix, it was so bad. So he went to the hospital and after a few hours, it was determined that he has two kidney stones.

His muffled phonecall to me was the result of a dose of morphine the doc gave him.

Well, without blathering on and on, he is home now, taking a load off. And praying that those stones will pass mercifully....

I have never heard of a merciful kidney stone. They seem to enjoy making their presence known and your husband much has my sympathies.

Sorry to hear about your husband. I hear that's painfull. To answer Jon I think it has to do with some people not being able to disolve certain things and they formulate into a stone. I have friends with that problem and for some reason they have to avoid ice tea. No time to look it up on the internet but I'm sure there's an answer there. Actually the thing that caught my eye in your blog was the phrase "down east." I have never heard that said. Around here and in most places of the US that I've come across, it's "down south," "up north," "out west," and "back east." Don't know why but almost everyone I hear uses one of those phrases (and it's something my ear picks up). Any reason why you used "down east" Kizzo? Is that the way it's said around you?

The way I understand kidney stones is that each patient is different, and that drinking plenty of water was supposed to help. We even purchase that nice bottled water, as opposed to tap (even though our tap water is heavenly), so as to encourage my hubby to drink even more of it. BUT: he got two more stones anyhow (his last battle with this was about six to eight years ago, though) ... So I guess the catchall phrase that medics might use is that he is predisposed to getting them .... He is still in lots of pain, but he is in good hands. As for the 'down East' phrase -- ha ha, that really is how we say it. Thanks to you all for your kind wishes! Kizzo

Oh Kiz, I hope he's okay. Must have been pretty scary receiving that call.

I've heard those things are tortuous - like giving birth. Glad he's okay and on dope. (-: That makes just about anything better! Did he pass it yet? Once it passes he'll be fine.

Me, too, Jon, it is not easy! Anyhow, one passed (poor sweetie), so he is doing better. Thanks everyone.
