An Update...

So an update on just a few things. First, it is official that I"m going to be trying to get out of my parent's house at the first available chance. Things are just going to keep degenerating, and the situation is showing no hope of changing for the better. So, that is that, and I'll hopefully be in a home by the end of March beginning of April at the latest. Earlier if I can get the loan and close on a home more quickly.
As for a house... we don't know what we are going to get for the moment. A lot is going to depend on how much I can get a home loan for, and how much of a downpayment that we will have. We really want to keep a little buffer cash just in case there are any necessary repairs or a stint of unemployment for my husband. He's hoping to get on with an airline, and while he isn't sticking to only that as an option there may be a month or so where bills need to be net and we don't have two incomes. We also need to account for what we can afford to pay when there are two separate homes being run off of the incomes.
I don't have a job yet, but I'm working hard to get out resumes. I am working on sending them out this week, and I will begin making follow up calls next Monday. Things may be a bit slower with the holiday comining up, so if I don't have a job by the time I get home I'll find a waitressing position or something else to work in order to make money until I find something permanent. Right now I'm hoping to find something with one of the local colleges. If that is the case I can work and continue my schooling for free. For me it would mean the benefit of filling my dream of getting a degree in biology and teaching. There would also be very set hours that I will be working which will be good for my children. 40 hours with the occasional over-time is much better than 50-60 hour weeks as a norm. So... yeah... I'm continuing to look for work, but I may be finding something at 20-30 hours a week as just a temporary position to help pay for the cost of us being in Ohio instead of out here and to help put together a bit more money to put down on a house.
As for going to Ohio, that plan is ever changing. My sad bit of news is that because the cheaper airline here is pulling out we've decided that there will be only one trip to Ohio for my husband after I've found a home. It isn't sitting well with either of us, but tickets are twice as much for him with the Sky Bus airline pulling out of Bellingham. We were counting on $300 tickets for a round trip flight and now we're looking at ones that are about $750 or so at the lowest price. We just can't afford the trips, not if we wish to keep some money back as an emergency fund.
That's where I'm sitting at the moment. I'm packing and still trying to get some crafts finished. My story is on the back burner for a bit until there is more time to write. I'm still trying to lay out the specifics of the setting so that I am not contradicting myself later. Also, I'm working to define the class structure which will become so important in the story. The hard part is determining where I'm going to go with everything. I have had an idea from the start, but now I find that I'm reluctant to have something so horrible happen to the characters. I think it will anyway, but it is still hard to do something mean to the characters I've imagined. I like them, and I'm sorely tempted to just write them a tale of happily ever after.
Take Care,
Meg
