Day 14 or is it 15?

Ok, I'm not doing as well on the Chantix as I had hoped to be doing by this time. I've talked with the folks at the support phone number they give everyone and this is what they've told me after asking a lot of questions. When I smoke a cigarette now, it's not because of a craving for the cigarette. My brain doesn't respond to them like it did before taking the pills. It's because of the habit now, not the addiction. I smoke when I do things I usually do when I smoke or smoke when I am doing it. Like when I go on break or lunch at work. I usually smoke. So I will not go to where the smokers are. I'll take a book and read and sit with the non-smokers. (they aren't as much fun, but I'll liven them up!) That is when I smoke the most often. Sometimes, though, I forget to smoke. It's becoming much easier and they have told me to set an end day every day. The lady I spoke to said it took her about 4 weeks to get completely out of the habit of lighting up. So, I'm still trying. I won't give up.

I won't give in, Virgil. It is just taking longer than I hoped it would take. I'm so ready to quit smoking that I won't give up. I do pretty good, it's just that the three or four I smoke at work makes me feel like a failure. But talking to the support line has help me a lot. My problem isn't very unusual so I feel better.
    Thanks for your support.

You can DO it (said in best Rob Sneider voice). Find a replacement habit - a healthy one. How about chewing sugarless gum?

I think you are making progress as expected and best to you. More braver then me--I like junk food and not about to give up Milky Way Darks.

I admire you granny5. I did quit smoking but as you mentioned, it's more like a habit. I actually had to change my home environment to be sucessful in quitting. I don't think I could have ceased smoking if the move hadn't coincided with my desire to stop, my husband's urging, and the leftover cash we had to spend on the expensive nicotine gum.

good luck, best wishes!! it's so hard to quit
