The nephew called a few days ago. I was at work and used that as an excuse not to talke as I was still developing my approach to the lecture on mock suicide attempts and if I want proper entertainment a walk with a very strong willed puppy named Onyx would be more rewarding.
He was supposed to call back after I got home that night but didn't. To curb any guilty conscience I rang his number up and got his voice mail. Did not leave a message.
Two days later he checks back in. A friend of his has offered a 35 hr a week job doing house construction, dywall, plumbing, electrical. He gets paid for 40 hours and he's still keeping the part time liquor store job. Worked a day already and had the first sore muscles I suspect he's ever had and his attitude sounds more positive.
Til we talk about Julie. She still doesn't want to work things out. Their second anniversary is next Monday and Stephen asked me if he should send a card. I remind him a restraining order precludes this. He maintains it was never served. Never stopped New York from keeping tabs on traffic violations but what do I know. After thinking about it a bit I surprise myself by counseling to let it go and for once send her a message that he's about to move on. Told him I didn't think they had a marriage to be celebrated at this time and maybe the point might lead to something. Also the hope chest is till safe. I thought he was bluffing. He even made a joke about a neighbor lady friend of he and Julie's that caught his attention and I this was the first time I ever heard him mention life beyond her with another.
Sky was quickly checked for the apocalyspe. Nope not tonight. (My personal belief is the Lord is still about a thousand or so years off---many many souls yet to saved.)
So that call ended well.
Sunday thru Wednesday at work went well with no particular toils and troubles that effected the stations I was monitoring. Traditionally this is the quiet time of the year in the call center before winter hits and I spend saying the eta is tomorrow and you're on a list so sorry. The city can be shut down but dispatchers are still expected to show up. Considered tacky not to risk car and life and limb in inclement weather. We are a tow service. If you get stuck we'll get you loose in 6 hours not tomorrow--privilege of position.
Was off yesterday but slept most of it. Spent some time here reading and posting comments then checking to see if they are noticed. Wish I had the personal guts to post and not look back. Often amazed and delighted by what gets noticed and what doesn't.
With the apparent success of my mini Gone With the Wind entry we have considered a study of the rise, fall and rise again of Harelquin romances convinced I can get seven comment feedbacks and recover a lapsed litnetter or two to boot. Darn just so many ways you can disect those books and avoid the use of the word robust.
Back to Jonah Hex--the new issue came out and it was a capstone to a plot that goes literally back over 20 years. A movie is in production but I suspect it will be worse then a Captain America movie --or Punisher.
Calltaker Sylvia retired today and I went down for a short farewell. 72 years old and has family and church to keep her busy. I inform her daughter (whom I had never net she is leadfoot on the gas pedal who regularly feeds me her dust on the way home. She'll be missed.
