Chantix

Rate this Entry
I am a smoker. I don't want to be a smoker, but I am addicted. Today I started taking Chantix to assist me in quiting. It's supposed to help retrain
the brain to not want cigarettes. It's a twelve week course of treatment so I should be smoke free before the New Year. I've tried several times to quit, one time not smoking for 5 1/2 years. But I always go back to smoking or fail in my efforts to stop. But this time I am ready and feel pretty good about it.
So wish me luck.

Good luck not smoking!! I quit over a year ago, but the method I used was nicorette gum in combination with cigarettes coupled with a total environment change.

I don't know much about the medication you're taking, but I think one of my relatives quit smoking with the assistance of Chantix. I think he said that in addition to hating cigarettes, he also hated coffee. But heck, coffee is one of those acquired tastes also, isn't it? Just like cigarettes.

Good luck. I do know that if you continue to smoke them they will more than likely result in or contribute to your death, just from watching two regular- smoking grandmothers of my own dying. One died of the lung cancer specifically, and the other would have if her kidneys hadn't failed her first.

I hope it works out for you. But somedays, I wish for a cigarette. there's just something nostalgic about a good cigarette. Then again, cigarette smoke in a closed room is the most revolting thing. Or the stink of cigarettes in your hair or on your sweatshirt, or in your purse. Good luck, not smoking. Again.

Best of luck to you Granny:) I quit about two years ago, and it is still one of the best things I've ever done. I managed to just cut back to a single cigarette a day, and then I went cold turkey when I became pregnant with my daughter. This was still an accomplishment since I never managed to quit when I was pregnant with my boy. I hope this time sticks.

Best of luck Granny. Smoking is one of the worse things for you. It really damages so many parts of your body, and it will reduce your life span. And the quality of that life. My father could have lived so many more years if he had not smoked. He passed away at 71.

Thanks for the support everyone. My brother started the Chantix also so we'll work together. Also, there is support offered by the company online for a year. That should really be a help after the 12 course of meds. I've been told by folks who have used it to stop that after the first week, you don't even think about cigarettes. I can't wait.
