SPAM-tastic!

Many of us either have our own websites or are moderators of others. If you are in that position, I guess you know you have hit "the big time" when the SPAM comes a calling. I am one of the moderators of a small gaming site and we get our share of this ubiquitous substance, usually in the form of automated bots that post lots of link spam. It is better since we switched platforms, now only registered users can post comments right away. The rest go to an approval queue to be deleted, if necessary. Some are approved because they are legitimate questions, and some are also from members who forgot to log in for whatever reason. The admin of the site did not want to disable guest posting all together so this is a happy medium for us.

Some of you may have noticed that I have a taste for the absurd, the off-beat, the random and the silly. I had to share some of the deleted SPAM I encountered in my travels, because I am just generous that way I suppose.

Then links to about 50 unsavory looking pharmaceuticals. How lovely, yes our site is well maintained. Since this spam is so polite, gosh I had better let it stay. Deleting it would be rude and make me feel sad.

    Hey Kathy. I get tons of spam. Is there anything I can do to stop it? And so many viagra type spams. LOL, are they trying to tell me something?

    My goodness, I got email SPAM a few times offering me male "enhancement" so hopefully the spammers aren't trying to tell either one of us anything...
    The stuff here was posted to a website, so it isn't too arduous to get rid off, just annoying.

    For your email account ( I assume that is what you mean...) you can set up filters to catch certain words (like the swearing here) or you can also set up junk mail folders and stuff like that. Next time you are logged in to your email try looking for junk mail or filters, even if you have to go to the help thing.

    Well, it is small and is not for general gaming. It is called SiegeTheDay. It is for people who mod (modify) and play Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 plus associated expansions. If you are interested in rpg games you could try GameBanshee, they have information plus discussion forums for a number of rpg's and action rpg's.
