Showers!

Rate this Entry
Oh, how I love showers! Growing up they were an escape from my rowdy family and homework...and a perfect time to think up creative endings to my experiemental short stories and essays. After a long run it felt so good to have cool water against the skin, so cleansing, and it just makes you feel so accomplished to see how much dirt goes down the drain after a good game of soccer!

More recently, showers have been a pain, because instead of thinking of endings for creative endeavors, I have been struggling through thesis and supporting points for papers, but today I struck gold! It may not be exactly what I wanted, because I have a more urgent paper to write for British Literature, but a strong example for my Philosophy paper will do just as well!

See, I had all these thoughts in my head about how if people keep on downplaying the importance of having a good vocabulary and basic analytical skills, that we would become like George Orwell's 1984 world and soon have only a few words to express ourselves...which would SERIOUSLY limit creativity and soon the ability to think for oneself, when it hit me like a ton of bricks: my philosophy paper is supposed to discuss the quote "education is at the heart of true democracy." If people aren't educated, and words begin to dissappear...there can't be democracy, because they don't even possess the words to express what they think and to analyze what "candidates" are supporting/not supporting...I know, I know, IDEAS can still exist...but DISCUSSION cannot take place and therefore whatever government unfolds (ruling by the educated few as in 1984 and Animal Farm) will not be democracy!

~takes idea and runs with it!~

Anyways...you should have seen me bolting out of the dormitory shower and into my bedroom to write all that down, hair dripping all over the paper as I wrote, lol. Like I said, I love showers

I do all my thinking in the shower too... for whatever reason.

That's an interesting philosophy paper. I think I mentioned somewhere in that one thread that if people didn't value literacy/education and it was optional...we would soon have no government. If literacy were a choice for only a select few who would want to go into office, well, not every college student today thinks about going into politics...the number of people would dwindle who desired to take charge over the nation while a select few would be running the country.

I hate this word limitation thing...

But as for the whole shower thing, I don't usually think of papers, I am too busy running away from everything - including the dreaded essays!!

I too get a lot of ideas in the shower. I wonder why?

There must be something thought-provoking about being all alone and nude surrounded by falling water, lol. Rain makes me thoughtful but it doesn't seem as extreme as showering...I think maybe because there isn't much to do in a shower but think, unless you are focusing all of your attention on scrubbing
-Grace, I do remember reading that in a post of yours, darn us Californians and our alike thinking!!!
