House Hunting

I never thought that it would be such a headache to find a house. I know it isn't a car or something, but I can't seem to find much that I really like. I found one home near my parents that was great, but I don't really like the location and it is more money that we would like to spend. The others that we've found are just alright. There isn't any one home that we LOVE and absolutely have to have. Well, there is the one that I want to build.
On that idea, I think I finally have my hubby talked into building our own home rather than buying something older. The house is perfect for us. The only thing I don't really like is that it doesn't have a second floor laundry, but that isn't really a requirement. It would just be nice. It is a three bedroom home, with two baths and a loft on the top floor as well. The main floor has a good sized kitchen with an optional island for more counter space. It's a necessary option since I spend much of my time cooking, and I love to have guests for meals. There is also the living room with a fireplace (if we want it), and there's a dining room/family room area. I wouldn't use it for either, but instead I would set it up as a library with books and the computer. Some nice comfy chairs and maybe a table for the kids to do homework at. I could also use the space for writing. Finally there is a basement, that we may or may not be able to get finished. The builder has been offering specials of a free finished basement off and on, so maybe we can get that too. Otherwise we would plan to finish it in a few years.
All of the above, and the price is still right for us. We're not looking for something too expensive. It will be our first home, and we are hoping to spend no more than 175K. The above is only in the mid 150s, so we should be able to afford it. My mum is actually going over to look at the model right now for me, and she is going to let me know a bit more about the community. I am so glad that she is willing to do it for us, and I think she may be more excited than me and the hubby about us building a home. I just hope that we can and we'll be able to get the financing. That is our biggest worry with him getting out of the military, and I'll be just starting my first full time job in years. I am really hoping and crossing my fingers that I'll have a position with that advertising agency. I think I will, but I'm not willing to count my chickens yet. I think we will likely try to finance through the builder. That should be one of the easiest ways to get the loan, but if they wont finance us there isn't too much hope that anyone else will. I just hope the fact that I've worked and finished off college for the last year will have some effect on the decision. I have proven that I can hold a job, even if it is only a part time one. I also know our credit should be very good, but I'm going to send off a letter to get a credit report.
Anyhow, that's all I've got here at the moment. We're just preparing for me and the kids to leave, and I'm also trying to find other companies to put in resumes with. We've been looking at homes, and trying to make sure we are ready to make that purchase when the time comes. We are also trying to figure out how to get my dogs and car home to me. The kids and I are just going to fly, and then my husband will bring the car later when the mountains are easier to travel through. Things are good. My initial panic is over, and now I am looking foward to getting everything moving. I'll admit that I can't wait to buy a house and have fun with the decorating. I'm sick of nothing but white walls, and I think one of the first things I'll do is paint my kitchen yellow. I'm leaning towards yellow/golds, browns, oranges, teals, and reds for my house. I love all of the sunset type colors, and that is what I'm planning to decorate in. Everything else is going well, and I'm off to try and write a bit before nap time is over for the kids.
Very Excited (if you can't already tell),
Meg
