it's time to go
there's a leak
and all is slipping away

fragments linger
frightened and unsure
hesitation screams aloud

anxiety holds dear
exposed
fear attempts to
drown tomorrow

this life raft
appears to be
my undoing
it's not what
i thought

in a sea
of a thousand nights
i drifted
stars and moon
my silent companions

songs i sang
scripture remembered
held on till forever
showed up

letting go
the life raft
slowly left
wandered away
without a gesture
or wave

swimming alone
my feet ached
from the cold

with nowhere else
beside me
and no other
alternatives

barely able
turning it over
my feet touched the ground
