The Amazing Jelly Donut

I have two things I would like to write about today,.
The first is motherhubbard’s poem, Reaching Into Forever. Poppy took a picture I had of mh and her Granny, the one she wrote about in the poem, and posted it to her thread for her. Now everyone can see what she was writing about. Mh and her Granny were great friends and I’m proud of the poem and of Poppy of being so thoughtful. I know that the original Granny would be too.
The second thing is jelly donuts. Jelly donuts may seem like a mundane thing to most folks, but if you had never seen a jelly donut, wouldn’t it be wondrous? Tuesday morning is breakfast day at motherhubbard’s with the boys and bagels. The boys love bagels. Last week I took McDonald’s sausage and biscuits for a change. Well, they weren’t too happy about it and didn’t eat them. They wanted their regular bagels.
I was sick last night and missed work. Darn stomach flu!! Anyway, I ran up there this morning because the boys are used to me being there on Tuesday mornings and I didn’t want to miss. We don’t have a place here to buy fresh made bagels so I went to the donut shop and bought donuts. I took the boys raspberry jelly donuts. Well, Max, the 2 ½ year old had never seen a jelly donut before. He was amazed!! It was like he didn’t want to eat it and mess the beautiful thing up. All he would do is point at it, say “Look Granny” and “Wow!” We finally got him to stick his finger into the jelly and try it and he seemed to like it. But he still didn’t want to mess it up. I think he’s saving it to show his big sisters when they get home from school. I feel like it is a shortcoming of their mother for not introducing this child to the wonders of the world like jelly donuts. Anyway, the jelly donuts were amazing, but they just weren’t bagels. The chocolate covered glazed donuts were a much bigger hit with the boys and with their Dad. I knew donuts would be the right thing for him, he’s a policeman.
