Polar Denizens

Was out working last night and a red fox came scampering towards me. It was dark (of course) and it was lurking along the side of the buildings. Lurking for fox is similar to cats, almost a pre-stalking. It had brilliant red fur with black mittens and a white chin. This was a red fox, which while popular in most of the North America, it is rarer here. It wasn't long before a semi rolled by and scared it off.
The only two other animals I've seen were the Arctic Fox and the Raven. The Arctic Fox is the smaller of the two fox species and is completely white except for its nose and eyes. The fur for both of the fox makes them look bigger than they are. They are extremely cute, but all of the fox here have a high occurence of rabies (85%).
The Ravens here are amazing birds. The jet black birds tend to roost all over the drilling locations. Its hard to believe that these animals frequent these polar extremes where the temperature will drop to -50 F (-58 C).
No polar bear sightings yet. I'll have a long entry for that I'm sure.
Wake up and fly to Anchorage tomorrow.
