Calling mtpspur

Ok, I made it back to Wisconsin just fine. My car was in storage, so I go to pick it up. Two months in storage and I find my car with a flat tire and a dead battery. Ok, I drive a Nissan Xterra with friggin genius engineering (that was sarcasm folks). I have a full size spare which is under the rear of the vehicle. To lower this full size tire you just insert this long rod into the bumper, blindly fumble with it until you get it into location. Well you know me, leave the car in storage for several months each year, the last time I lowered the spare tire was in 2005. Now the spare is frozen/rusted into place not sure which, but I believe it to be rusted.

Ok, I don't know if you are picking up on how frustrating this is. Its 20 degrees F, and I am starting to get irritated. I decide to just jack the tire up, take it off, and take it to someone to repair it. Well I get the bolts off, but now the tire is stuck and not coming off. Where is mtpspur when you need him?

AAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHH! I feel like Charlie Brown.

mtpspur is contemplating which station will give you the bad news--the tire is stuck and can't get it down and the tool you are using won't work--they will assume you have not had the presence of mind to keep the original tool--ask any mber with special locking hubs for the key and check out the "Huh, what??" faces you get. But by golly they'll tow and tell me they need a winch to get it out of the garage and by the way the plates aren't current--been in storage don't you know. I can think of only 4 stations that wouldn't turn this into a cash cow.

Actually do have the correct tools. I wanted to bat at it with a hammer, but was worried about the shaky jack. I put the tire back on and got a jumper box with a compressor on it and it started on the first try. I'm taking it to my friend he is gonna take a look at it. Its the first time in maybe 60 tire changes (lifetime) that I haven't been able to get a tire off. no locking mechanisms..total damage $45 dollars.
