The parents are coming;)

It has been a pretty good day. My parents are coming into town tomorrow, so I've been cleaning like a mad lady in preparation. This wouldn't be bad if you could tell that I've put so much work into the house. For every mess I clean up, two more come to replace them. Oh well, at least it is just my parents, and they are not going to care if my son has put fingerprints on the TV or the baby has pulled a ton of stuff out.

Next week is going to be a long week. I'll not be on much with the house full of company. I will be too busy yanking my hair out at the antics of Garrick and my niece. My house feels like a zoo when they are here with the addition of another child. I love when they visit, and I think it is great they bring my niece, but I will be thrilled to see them go again. As a bit of background, my niece is 6 weeks older than Garrick. She was a surprise baby, and I cared for her during my remaining time at home. I was about 6 months pregnant when she was born, and I was also in the process of planning my move from Ohio to Washington. My sister was unable to care for her properly, so I was the one who basically raised her in the beginning. It broke my heart to not keep her with me, so I'm always happy to see her. I know she isn't mine, but, after being the person waking with her at night and in the morning when she was so little, I sometimes feel as if she is. Anyway, they'll be here, and I'm looking foward to the visit.

Other than cleaning for the invasion;), I've also found a little time to write. I've written a short story, but I don't think I'll be posting that here yet. It is more of the general idea for another story that has been turning in my head. I wanted to get the basics down of my character and where it was going, so I figured a short story was a good way to go. I hope to find the time in the future to expand it to a full novel. The main character's pain rips at my heart, and I would love the chance to really write more about him. I'm at a bit of a stop in Kings, Queens, and Pawns. I've been reviewing what I've written, and I'm trying to make some quick reference character notes. I figure that while I'm in a bit of a block is as good a time as any to start taking the information down. I think I know where I'm going with the story now, but I'm waiting for a good bit of inspiration before I start writing too heavily on that again. I really need to settle on a story or two to write. It seems like every time I sit to work on a single thing three other ideas for another story intrudes. I'm hoping that if I get the character and setting profiles for the tow I've started down then maybe my brain will settle a bit.

Well, I'm off for the night. I hope everyone is having a good day. Enjoy the weekend.

Meg

P.S. I just read the post and noticed that it didn't make any sense when I said I was 6 months pregnant, but my son and niece are only 6 weeks apart. Garrick was 9 weeks premature at birth, so that is where the other time comes from:) I hope it makes better sense now.

I hope your weekend goes well. I always want to clean up a little before anyone comes over, even if it is just my parents. don't know about your parents, but mine have always kept a messy house, so I don't know why I bother so much with making my place presentable when they come over.

good luck with your story. It amazes me that you have stories going on in your head even with your children and busy life. What is your secret?

    Cheers

I always want a clean house too, but save the cleaning for when they are gone! Good luck with the visit

I wouldn't fuss so much as to make myself head-ache-ish over a clean house. Life's too short. Enjoy the visitors, it will go quickly and it is good for the kids, methinks. You have such a busy life, as Shalot mentioned, and where indeed do you have the time to contemplate and then execute your ideas for these stories? You are a shining example of a dedicated writer. Yay!

That's normally the issue. Too much to do, but never enough time. I lose more stories that I ever get out on paper, but some circle back. Those are normally the ones that I get down. Plus, when the muse is pushing I can't sleep. My thoughts will keep me awake if I don't act on them. So, I write it out and the rely on coffee to get me going the next day:) I spend too many late nights at the computer writing when I should be sleeping.

I'm with MH, save the cleaning till after they've gone. You'll just have to do it all over again. Of course, I tend to put the cleaning off for whatever reason I can come up with!! Enjoy your visit.
