Dogs are silly

Why is it that dogs seem to do some of the silliest things? I have two dogs, and they make quite a pair. The first dog, Ash, was given to us by a friend's neighbor. They didn't want the dog any longer, so we got him. He is a 30 lb mutt. I call him my mystery mutt:) We don't really know what is in him, but I think maybe some German Shepard and some terrier of some kind. He is this little, shy, easily upset dog. If you look at him wrong his ears go back and his head and tail drop down. My second dog, Keeghan, we bought from an adoption agency upo here known as SPOT (Saving Pets One at a Time), and he is almost the exact opposite of Ash. He is about 100 lbs and he is a mutt mix of Siberian Husky, Golden Labrador, and Rettweiler. He is active and a very outgoing dog. He loves to play with his balls (we use Kongs, and they're great). He even likes to carry his Kong around the house chewing and sleeping on it like it is a security blanket. He's one of those dogs that is actually too smart and it gets him in a bit of trouble.

Judging by their personalities, I would think that Keeghan would be the dog to do the most silly stuff, but Ash is always giving us a surprise. The other day my son was out riding his Grave Digger Powerwheel. If you don't know who or what the Grave Digger is, it's a monster truck and my dad just had to get it for my son. Anyway, he's driving around the yard and Ash is chasing it and barking like crazy. Then, next thing I know, he is biting the truck like it is somthing to be killed. This goes on for a good 20 or 30 minutes. The dog just ran around after the truck trying to bite the bumper, the doors, and anthing else he could get. All the while, he is making this high pitch growling noise. I've never seen the dog act like that, but it was a scene for Funniest Home Videos. I wish I had a video camera, because then I could have recorded the whole thing.

Not two days later, Keeghan has his shot at seeming silly. As I already said, he is in love with his Kong ball. For Keeghan it is a necessary part of his good mood. He takes it everywhere, but it means that it gets lost frequently. Well, he lost his ball really good this time. We looked everywhere and couldn't find it. You've never seen two adults look as hard for a toy as we did that ball. As soon as he knows his ball is gone, the dog immediately begins to pout. That is the only way to describe his behavior. He will lay on the floor for hours which is unusual for him. After a day or so, he starts to get grumpy. You can tell, because he will play much more roughly with Ash and my son. He will also start to not listen and be increasingly more stubborn. This sulking goes on for a few days until I decide to get him a new Kong. We couldn't find the old one anywhere, and it is worth the money to have him happy. I assume that he will be thrilled to have a new toy, but this one wasn't the right one, I guess. I bought a black Kong thinking it would hold up better since it is harder than his old red one (he's needed a new one for a while), and he wouldn't have anything to do with it. He just let it sit on the floor and continued to mope. Out of nowhere, my husband found the old Kong. It was in Garrick's Grave Digger truck, and I don't know how it got there, but Keeghan immediatly had an improved mood. He was jumping around the house and prancing at the sight of his old ball. Since, he hasn't let the ball out of his sight.
