Grandkids

I have 5 grandchildren ages 2 to 12. They are the greatest thing ever invented. Kids are ok, but you have to be the mom when you have kids. Being a granny is a lot easier. If they do something they aren't supposed to do, ignore it. If they want something they aren't supposed to have, give it to them. If they want to eat sugar out of the sugar bowl, so what. If they say words they aren't supposed to say, well.....
I went to my daughter's farm tonight to help sand her kitchen cabinets. While my son-in-law and I were in the kitchen trying to decide the best way to go about this, my 4 year old grandson yells out from the other room, "OH SH*T". My son-in-law and I just look at each other and were about to decide that we couldn't have heard what we thought we heard when he yells out again, "OH SH*T". So the young man was called into the kitchen and asked what he had said. "Oh dog" he says. Well, after a little talk with his dad he admitted to the bad word. Where had he learned it? His 8 year old sister. Of course she was also called into the kitchen. Where had she learned it? Her 8 year old playmate. In the process of explaining where they had learned the word and why they had said the word, there were more "sh*ts" being said than you'd hear at a navy yard. A very stern lecture followed. And I have to admit that my son-in-law did a very good job handling the sitution. But I had to listen to all of this from the laundry room. Not because I didn't want to see a dear grandchild of mine spanked or have their mouth washed out, but because I couldn't stop laughing. I laughed so hard that I cried. I know it's a bad word for a 4 or and 8 year old to be using, but it was all so cute!! And of course, I've had my daughter looking daggers at me because I never laughed when she used foul language. But I was the Mom then.
It's great being the Granny.

:lol::lol: I couldn't help laughing at this story. My son is four and even being the mom it is hard not to laugh when things like this happen in my house. I guess it will be nice when it is my grandkids and then I don't have to worry about not laughing or feeling bad when I can't even punish or correct the behavior because I can't stop.

My mom is way different as a grandmother (my sister's children, I don't have any) than she was as a mother. As a mother she was pretty much no nonsense; as a grandmother, she's indulge, indulge, indulge.

isn't it a shame that kids even have to be exposed to bad language? At least you made it to the laundry room and didn't just fall to the floor laughing in the kitchen

It's a granny's job to spoil grandchildren...and I've very good at my job!
