According to the news, the last Harry Potter book comes out at midnight, I think. I’m just curious, what’s so great about Harry Potter? They're putting on a Blue Peter special about it for goodness sake. I’ve never read any of the books. I’ve read all of the Chronicles of Narnia and I was reading Lord of the Rings but I’ve lost The Two Towers. It’s around the house somewhere. The Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King are in mum’s room and I was half way through The Two Towers when I lost it. No worries though, I’ll find it somewhere.
Seriously though, is Harry Potter really that great? I’m pretty sure he’s had more merchandise that Lord of the Rings did.
I had to put up with it all through secondary school where anyone with glasses got a Harry Potter reference, even if they were a girl.
I guess that kind of explains why I don’t particularly want to read the books.
But seriously though, I don’t get what’s so great about it. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Well, I cannot answer about book questions, having never read a Potter book, but I did see a couple of the movies, and they were enjoyable. Perhaps I shall read a book, as it is said that to write well, one must expose themselves to all kinds of writings... **sigh**. But anyhow, we have this hype going on where I come from, too. There is a "Countdown To Midnight Harry Potter Festival", where no expense has been spared to re-create a 'perfect' platform from which all those hungering readers may dress up as their favorite character and take part in tons of activities (magic shows, etc.), while they wait for the clock to take them to glory.... (I didn't plan on going, mind you, lol!)

I came at them as a series character that was getting good reviews. I struggled with the first couples of chapters then it got interesting. Each book gets better and larger. J. K. Rowling takes the time to develop her characters and REMEMBERS ALL the plot threads--even the small stuff. Having read comics for over 40 years steady (more or less) she succeeds very well in turning the expected story direction with a 90 degree turn that MAKES SENSE. You have GOT to have talent to pull that off. Much like Josh Whedon on Buffy and Angel or J. J. Abrams on Alias. Hope this helps.

I first saw the harry potter movies (in Spanish) when I was ten in my and I loved them. When I learned from a Cuban taxi driver there were books I was ecstatic. Harry Potter 1 and 2 were the first two books I got when I came into this country (in my school for free) and the first books I learned to read IN ENGLISH. needless to say: I love it and i still do. There's something charming and delightful about children's fantasy.
