Aprons...

I was sitting around today, and it dawned on me that I have some very weird tastes in domestic things. Growing up I wan't what one would consider your typical girl. Well, most of the people who knew me wouldn't consider me girly at all, and I was in fact just another one of the guys. I wasn't the type to wear dresses, and even now I don't own more than one. So why do I have a facination with something a dainty, frilly, and feminine as aprons. Now, I'm not talking your fast food emplyee apron, I mean the hand sewn vinatage ones with the cute skirts and lace. I like them enough that I bought this pretty butterfly fabric, coordinating blue solid fabric, and butterfly lace to make me one to use when I entertain guests. I've ordered the pattern and everything, and I can't wait for it to get here so I can sew it:blush:

I'm actually embarassed by the idea that I love aprons. I'm not entirely sure why they went out of style, but it went hand in hand with the feminist movement and women choosing to not stay home. I've actually had other people look at me as if I've lost my mind when I mention that I like to wear aprons for guests. I don't know what it is about tying a pretty apron on that makes you feel as if you are a true lady of the house. I've noticed you are more likely to be treated as such when you wear an apron too. Is it odd that I find so much enjoyment in something that was once burned in protest by women wanting more equality? I find my self wondering if aprons will ever make a return to the world of fashion or, as so many other great fashions, will they fade away entirely and become just another museum item.

Aprons were once burned in protest? Wow, that's a new bit of information for me.

I adore the 1940's style aprons, cinched-in at the waist, a little poof, delicate fabric. If I come across one at an antique store, I'll admire it, and occasionally buy one, although I never end up wearing them. There is something nostalgic about them that appeals to me.

the apron you are making sounds nice, will you post some pictures of it when you are done, please?

I will try. I'm still working out how to post my own pictures to the site since most of them are normally too big of a file.

So what's wrong with liking aprons? They look cool. Even men wear them. Somwtimes. So you have a femine side. I have a femine side too.

Hey Even I like aprons! I think dressing up like a Lolita maid is cute, even thougth I would die before somebody saw me wearing one. I like dresses too, (as long as they're not pink). Be proud of your apron love! APRONS RULE!
