Fire

Haven’t blogged in a while, had nothing to say really except that I made some muffins about a week ago and there’s a box of cookies I can make any time I want too.
This morning I had a rather disturbing dream. The dream itself at the time wasn’t disturbing but the thought of it after, when I’d woken up was disturbing.
My house was on FIRE.
I was in the living room, probably about here, on the computer and I saw this lovely orangey-red glow through the back window. I don’t know if the smoke was there before or after but the room was full of smoke and for some reason a I wasn’t wearing my glasses. I couldn’t be sure if it was really smoke or not, for some stupid reason because of course it was smoke, a bloody thick fog of smoke. Interesting that I’d use the word fog to describe it because that’s what I thought it was for some stupid reason. I couldn’t be sure if it was us on fire or one of the neighbours so I went to the window to look and it was us, somewhere around the kitchen. I still wasn’t convinced for some reason but I opened the living room door and the whole hallway was thick with smoke, just like the living room. Now I believed without a doubt that it was smoke, from a fire. Smoke from a fire in my house. I stumbled along to the front door, not in my glasses don’t forget (I’m badly short sighted but not so badly that I’m going around with magnifying glasses on my face but still it’s pretty bad. I’d never be able to go around outside without them, I could see blurry shapes and I could only see faces if they were too close for comfort). Now at the door and being confronted by fog that was just as thick as the smoke in my house I stupidly stood in the doorway and called for help, though not very loudly I must add. Luckily for me, A boy two doors down from me was out with two miscellaneous friends, his name’s James (I knew him when he was little, I was friends with his sister, quite a while ago now. It amazes me to think he’s in his teens now, in secondary school, going out with girls, because I can’t help still thinking of him as that little boy who could never say my name right ) anyway, he was out with his friends and they all helped me out of the house and then I think I told them what was wrong and we got a fire extinguisher from nowhere (In this dream mum had one in her car because…. Well, just because ) I mentioned it and it just suddenly appeared though no one noticed, not even me, but we knew we had it so we went round the back to put the fire out. It was only small. Then James and his friends went off and I was left with a house now emptying itself of smoke and two rather dead looking, bright red lizards (One of them pressed into a wall as if the fire extinguisher had somehow thrown him into it). It was obvious that they were some sort of “fire lizard”, obviously, and it was obviously them that had somehow caused the fire because that’s the weird, twisted logic that my brain came up with to explain this story. Then, the smoke was gone and there were no signs of a fire and Henry (My beloved deceased cat who visits me sometimes, in my dreams) came along. He cringed at the step and didn’t look like he was going to come in. He was either afraid of me or the house but I had the feeling that there was another cat lurking around that he was retreating from. He put his body low to the ground and had his ears pinned right back. I thought of making a grab for him but he was too tense, he’d have run off and I wouldn’t have seen him again so I had to coax, half plead, him in because I didn’t want him to get startled and run off. I wanted to shut the door on him and keep him inside, with me (I always do when he comes). He came in and we gave him a bottle of milk that was out of date but not quite lumpy yet (Without a cat we’ve got no reason to have milk because it never gets drunk (Full milk anyway. Mum has semi skimmed but she’s been going for goats’ milk lately) Henry preferred full milk). He drank the milk we gave him happily enough.
And that was my disturbing dream.
In other news, quite late last night (well, this morning actually) I discovered Kingdom Hospital being repeated on BBC2. I watched it last time but I don’t think I saw all of them. I saw enough to get the general jist of the story though. Also, Doctor Who’s on BBC3 all this week at seven. Yay!
Also, I learned yesterday, having watched Brainiac on sky 3 (it came with the digibox ) that a mattress absorbs about a pint of sweat from you in a week. Interesting.
I like watching Braniac because it tells you interesting things and more often that not something gets blown up. Jason mentioned it once (He was one of the only two people that had passed chemistry at AS because of some screw up, which he thought was great because he and that person had passed the first half, the teacher HAD to teach them, regardless of how many were in the class . I discovered that he’s actually smarter than he’d seemed. (A few years ago the school introduced two more classed to our year, A and B and they were where the smart children would go. I knew I wouldn’t get in, so I didn’t hope. But it turns out that Jason got into one of them (he’d been in my class prior) and even the teachers were amazed. He said that on paper he’s quite smart but he says stupid things so people think he isn’t. That made perfect sense.)).
That’s all I had to say really, except that I’ve got a sore on the tip of my tongue that won’t go away, especially as I can’t stop rubbing the back of my teeth. I keep putting salt on it to help but it’s a slow process. Any suggestions?
I think that’s all, except that I’ve started flicking through a poetry book mum got me a while ago. I’m fascinated by one about a Kraken and the picture that goes with it. I also love some of the funny ones too, like;
A flea met a fly in a flue,
Said the flea let us fly
Said the fly let us flee
So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

It took me a while to say that one without tripping up, but this one I got easily;
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll whether the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not.

Try it, it’s not easy but it’s fun.
It’s very useful because my pirate captain has several poetry books in her brain and she’s continually making bets which involve things like putting a film or song quote in every sentence or that she can use more song titles in casual conversation than the other person. The same is sometimes done with poetry too.

    I hate dreams that are of a disaster orientation -- I used to stew and worry that our house would burn, so I hear what you are saying. As for the sore on the tip of your tongue? Well if you rinse out your mouth with warm salted water two or three times a day, and drink lots of fresh water in between, you'll see improvement.

    Thanks Kiz, I've already begun to implement your method I'll see if there's anything to update tomorrow.
