Thank You Granddad’s Genetics

Alternative title: This Would've Been Just a Comment But Was Too Long

Well. Seems like I might have inherited my Granddad’s teeth after all. The dentist gave my teeth a rather sadistic poking and scraping to check for holes. None. Well, none big enough to need filling anyway. If you believe the Sensodyne adverts the teeth have microporous holes that causes sensitivity. So I definitely do have holes, just none of concern. She assured me that teeth are far stronger than you think so though it seemed like she was scraping too much it’s actually okay. I know. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.
She’s not too concerned about the grinding. There’s little to no wear. I forgot to tell you that my jaw clicks constantly on the left side. But as there’s no pain it’s not a concern. I ended up getting my teeth cleaned. Feels weird. Like they’ve been violated somehow. But I did have 11 years of build up (even though cleaning my teeth every day has helped remove some of it) and took a dental impression (it’s wet at first then dry and icky and kind of tastes like paper) and x-rayed my teeth. That process has changed in 11 years too. I’m sure last time I just sat in front of something for a while. Now they stick a kind of sharp plate thing in your mouth and point the x-ray machine at it then leave the room. I guess that this is protecting me from the radiation but it cut into the underside of my tongue. Couldn’t be helped.
Now. My dental care has either been free or reduced for my previous visits because I was a child. But you have to start paying when you turn 18. I had a rough idea of a basic check-up cost. Wildly underestimated. Wildly.
A basic check-up, tooth cleaning and taking of a dental impression for a mouth guard for both upper and lower jaw comes to a lovely £244.30 . But no worries. I can pay the outstanding amount in two weeks when I should be receiving my mouth guard and also receive a quick 10 minute check-up.
Well. I hope it’s quick. I arrived on time for my appointment but had to wait half an hour until the guy before me was done and after about 15 minutes the woman with the appointment after me arrived. I would feel bad that my treatment made hers even later but I won’t take full blame since the guy before ate into my time which then ate into hers. From what I could make out in the waiting room it seems that maybe he doesn’t own a toothbrush nor know how to use one or how often so the dentist had to take some time to explain and reiterate multiple times.

Anyway. Stay on top of my dental hygiene and hopefully I will continue with dental good fortune. I’m under no illusions as to how lucky I am to have not had serious problems by now. But I have wisdom teeth growing so the potential for problems is never far from my mind.
Thank you Granddad’s genetics. I don’t know where I’d be without you.
I think it's also thanks to his genetics that my grey hairs aren't actually grey but white. I kind of like the idea of going white haired in my old age rather than grey.
