The Scabless

Just a quick update.
My scab peeled off. Now I have an oddly shiny pink line there instead.
A day or two ago the burn started to look kind of dry and peelable. I worried that if it snagged on something it would rip the scab off too. So yesterday I did a little picking and snapping of skin but only the parts not attached to the new skin anymore. I was worried about peeling it because it might cause the very thing I was trying to prevent but I found that the burnt skin was able to snap of quite easily. Then I left it alone. Well. Today I did a little more removal of the burnt skin, making sure to leave the scab (where I accidentally scratched my burn, if you recall) completely. So all that was left was a thick scab that I planned to give another day or two at least and a little skin at the edges of the burn which I also decided to leave well alone.
Now, because I’ve been feeling a bit colder lately I put on my fleecy long sleeved pyjamas over my thinner three quarter length sleeved pyjamas. But it can be a bit too hot so sleep in them but I forgot to take the fleecy ones off last night. An additional note, I decided to get some new bedding. I figured it was about time. I got a pretty butterfly patterned duvet cover and pillowcase but it didn’t include a sheet. Now since the set is mainly a kind of creamy colour I didn’t feel like getting a matching sheet. Too predictable and too pale. I chose this set mainly because, ever since I went to Uni and even before that, my bedding has been blue. It’s been a running theme. So I decided to shake things up a bit. There wasn’t much of a choice given my own personal sense of taste, what I’m comfortable with and isn’t blue. It seems to be quite “in” at the moment because three bedding sets were blue. Don’t get me wrong, they were nice but I figured I needed a bit of a change.
I thought about it for a while and then decided to pair a black sheet with the butterflies, since their bodies are also black. It’s a nice but not quite so obvious pairing. Just one problem. Now all the hair and dust shows up more. As time goes by I think that might become a little disturbing, unless I get used to it.
So. Back to my scab.
So there’s a bit of a bump on my wrist at that point. The scab is quite dry and the edges look like they started peeling a bit. I was determined to leave it alone. But my fleecy sleeves had other ideas. As I wandered into the bathroom to wash my hands (I feel the need to point out that our toilet isn’t actually in the bathroom. It’s right next to it in a tiny room of it’s own. Apparently it was like that when they bought the place, but it was smaller and the toilet faced the door, like a toilet cubicle. Napoleon, and I guess some buddies and/or a plumber at some point, kind of took a little wedge out of the bathroom and put the toilet there, so now it faces a wall but at least you have more room to manoeuvre).
So. I was going to wash my hands. I had a look at the orchids, we have a few of them now. The tiny one’s about to bloom. I moved my arm. I can’t remember if I was raising my hands as I approached the sink or just stretching, or just moving my arms around for the sheer heck of it. When, all of a sudden, I felt a little pain on the back of my wrist.
I knew instantly that it was the scab. What else could it be?
Yup. It seems that my sleeve snagged on the scab and ripped it clean off. But, no bleeding, weeping, redness, gouging or much pain. The skin is pink and shiny. A little red where the scab was but not obviously so, just a slightly darker pink. Seems the scab was ready to come off already. The skin surface is a little raised compared to the rest of my skin but completely healed. I guess the scratch wasn’t so bad after all. It just took of the dead skin before the skin underneath was ready. In hindsight, I should have known that it wasn’t as deep as it had seemed, because the hair is still there. Seriously. If I looked closely at my wrist I could see the hair sticking out of the scab as if nothing was wrong. Neither the burn, nor the scratch on said burn, harmed the hair follicles.
It’s pretty amazing to think that the human body can regrow skin. It makes you think. If only it could regenerate more than just a layer of skin. What if it could grow back limbs, or organs? Do you think human beings would be more reckless if they knew that missing and badly injured body parts would grow back and come out of it looking almost exactly as they did before without major surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process?
Anyway. Enough about my scab. I thought this would be a short entry but I got rambling again. I mainly decided to write this up because it sounded like kind of a cool title.
Also. There is one thing I forgot to mention about Christmas that I’ve been wondering when or where to put in. It’s nothing big. Just something I think I’d like to remember in the future.
I like some of the cheap/cute novelty Christmas earrings you get at that time of year. But since my ears aren’t pierced, I have no plans to get them pierced now or ever and I worry about the effects of cheap jewellery on my skin, I could never wear them. Even though my ears aren’t pierced, I do still wear ear jewellery, on occasion. I like to wear ear cuffs. They’re pretty and non-permanent. I only had three before Christmas, but I can’t actually wear one of them comfortably, so I actually only wear two. I’ve been wanting to get some more for a while.
When I went to get the kettle for mum, there happened to be a sale on selected jewellery where I got the cuffs. So I went in, spent far too long trying to decide what to get, Kind of ended up getting some that weren’t in the sale but didn’t realise it and spent more than I intended. But one of them I got for the sole purpose of modifying. I’d previously got some cheap but cute reindeer earrings with the intention of doing this.
I got my pliers, took the individual items apart and then put them together. It looked pretty nice and felt very comfortable.
Unfortunately, no one seemed to notice my festive new Christmas ear cuff. At least, no one mentioned it. But I didn’t mind. I felt festive.
Yeah. That’ll do for now. I have other events to write up but I worry you’ll get sick of me if I keep posting all the time. So I’ll leave it here.
Bluebiird out.
