Smoky Charcoal

Well. Now we have a new toaster. And my burn hasn’t been so bad today. It’s still red and feels a bit hot now and then.
As for the toaster. Well. We’re still getting to know each other. Mum tried it while I was asleep and burnt her toast. Because I like to do one slice at a time I tried it on a lower setting to usual (as the instruction booklet advises) but it wasn’t toasted enough to my liking. This happened a few times with the old toaster too. Mum prefers setting 4 and I prefer setting 2 so when I started eating toast a lot we had to start adjusting the dial accordingly, it’s not always turned to exactly the same point.
So I did what I would do in the old toaster. I set it to 1 (Originally it had been between 1 and 2) and flipped it over.
Now I’m always jumpy around the toaster, purely because anticipating the toast popping up kind of amplifies the silence around you. So until I was sure how loud this toaster would be I decided to leave the kitchen a bit. Well. After a little time had passed I figured it must be done now. I entered to find it smoking.
Nothing to worry about. Hit the cancel button, which is in a less convenient place than it was on the old toaster, and see if it can be salvaged.
Charcoal.
I worried that this toaster was faulty.
Now the kitchen’s all smoky.
Mum took the dog out, so I took the time to practice a little guitar. When I was done I decided to try the toaster again. Maybe I set the dial too far one way or the other or it didn’t like being used immediately after making toast.
Like I said, we’re just getting to know each other so I’m not ready to hate it yet.
This time (as I know that 1 isn’t enough) I set it to 2. Out came a nicely toasted, lightly browned little slice and the toaster popping is quite nice. Maybe about the same as the old toaster, maybe a little bit less.
So. It does work once you give it a little time to settle in.
As for the toast. I swear that (for that moment in time at least) the toast tasted better. Somehow more bready but good, not bready as in uncooked.
Providing nothing unusual happens I think we’ll get along very well.
Now I’m debating whether to clear an event from my ‘must blog about’ list. But I don’t have long before I absolutely have to be in bed so I guess I’ll just leave it here.
Hey at least it’s shorter than usual.
Bluebiird out.
