For Rumi


Spiritual bliss, love, and good feeling
are always good when the soul needs healing.
At times like these I return to you,
Dearest painter, poet, and heart so true;

Follow the breathe to the place of bliss,
Life, breath, and moment all are this:
Breath and life a river of sun -
Life and heart and the river, one.

One of these days I am a painter,
One day I feel life a bit fainter -
One day a poet's blissful vision,
Another a skyscraper with precision.

Today I can not write, and my heart cries,
Another day I am writing, and my soul flies.
But without thought or life I think and live
And would forerever drink and give

Away all that is given to me.
There's an uninished melody
That never needs to be complete,
I will leave it at your feet.

And there's a heart and soul inside
Where every song and smile reside.
Rumi, you've helped light every lantern,
Now I will just help to keep them burning.
