So. Halloween.

It was a pretty hectic day. I made orange bat pops and skulls. Didn't get to make the black skulls like I wanted, didn't have time. I wrapped up my home made sweets in sandwich bags tied with ribbon. It's just because of germs. I remember a while ago hearing people being advised to give the children wrapped or packaged sweets amid those whole glass and razor blades and stuff concerns but it also applies to germs. Children are germ magnets after all.
I wanted to do purple ones but I didn't get any blue sweet making stuff. I had the idea of mixing some blue food dye in the red stuff I had. Didn't work out. I know liquid food colour ceases up regular chocolate and gel ceases it up a little less but it still does it. I think I would need a powder or paste to do it well, but I didn't have any. I hoped the gel would do but it didn't work out so that was wasted. Got a tiny bit unhappy after that. When I get unhappy I get tired and how tired I get depends on how happy I am. A little disappointment like that doesn't really do much but I did have a break.
During that time I made myself a little Halloween playlist, my favourites being Such Horrible Things, Six Foot Deep and The Headless Waltz. I probably could've chosen more but Time was limited. So while making my final ones, the orange bat pops and skulls I was jumping about listening to that. Listening to music has a big effect on my mood.
Then while those were in the fridge I set about carving my pumpkin. Already getting dark by this time. I didn't make Pumpkin Bob look scary enough. He kind of looked like a grinning anime cat and my little Munchkin's expression didn't quite convey as much fear as I'd hoped. Also I started carving Bob's mouth and forgot to ad fangs which disappointed me a bit. I put little ones in the bottom but you could barely see them, though they did help to hold up Munchkin.
I put out some decorations and readied my costume. Took a while to spatter fake blood over my shirt and because we weren't sure how quick it would dry we taped some Clingfilm to the shirt underneath to prevent bleeding....... Had trouble fitting the axe into my braces but the scythe worked. In the end I didn't really use the axe which was a shame, good thing we got the scythe.
I was trying to put my orange skulls and bat pops together while also putting the sweets I made earlier into little bags, it's annoyingly finicky, when we got our first trick or treaters. I had a bowl of generic sweets, one bag of skulls and things and two bat pops, I think.
It was actually pretty sweet. I think they were the first two we had last year. One said to me "You had nice sweets last year". I wonder if he had one of those pumpkins from last year. I explained the different sweets this year, bloody skulls, puss filled boils and snot filled sweets. They didn't take them but that's okay. They said thank you without any prompting, that was nice.
I finished wrapping my other sweets.
All in all we had 6 lots of children and all but one of my sweets went. We were left with a red cola bat pop.
I think it was a group of four next. My sweets were quite well received but one boy took his time and only took one little cheap fizzy sweet but seemed very pleased with it, as if it were some kind of prize.
One group was two little girls and an even littler boy who was very loud. We heard him down the street. When he saw our house he shouted "Look! Double pumpkins!" That just made my day.
Another group consisted of a girl, two boys and an even littler boy at the back. One of this group saw our house and shouted "a Halloween house" which was pretty nice. These children were a little too grabby and the little one had to hang back and when he did get to come to the bowl he was hesitant. I don't much like having to wait for hesitant children because the others often go back for seconds. These ones needed serious prompting to say thank you. I won't say anything about the parents in this. It's when the parents can't get the child to say thank you or just can't be bothered that bugs me so anything else is good.
All in all quite a successful night. The weather was good until the end when it rained. Pumpkin Bob stayed alight the whole time and it was all pretty good. I'm quite proud of myself. i even took plenty of pictures for posterity.
Here we have the plate of sweets I've been making
