I am going to be leaving for my family summer vacation soon. We will be leaving on July 27, and so this is my proposed reading list for the books I plan to take with my while I am on vacation. I know it is probably more than I need, but I never let that stop me before.
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides - I loved his book Middlesex which I consider among my favorite books. I happened upon this book by him and was curious to read more of his work, but have not yet managed to get around to doing so. Now here on litnet we will be reading a Eugenides book for August. Of which I am hoping will be this one, but if not I plan to read it now either way.
The White Queen by Philippa Gregory - I have a soft spot for Historical Fiction. Right now I am 50/50 with Philippa Gregory. I did really enjoy The Other Boylen Girl, but really did not care for The Virgin Lover. So I would still like to read more of her works and will see how this one goes.
The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell - I pretty much love any and everything to do with Arthurian legend and I hear a lot of people rave about Cornwell. I had read one of his books Stonehenge, which I enjoyed well enough, but did not blow me away, but I have been wanting to read more of this author.
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon - This one needs special explaining. It is not the sort of thing I would ever normally read but such is the cost of love. My boyfriend enjoys reading books of this nature, and told me about this series. He thought at the least I would find them interesting. He knows I share a special connection with Artemis and these books feature her so I agreed to be daring and give the book a try.
Surfacing by Margaret Atwood - Every year I choose one (needless to say not very long) book with the intention of reading in its entirety during the duration of the vacation. So the intent is to start it upon arriving and have it finished before returning and I do usually succeed in this goal. I have heard this book was similar to The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath which I very much enjoyed. And Atwood is among my favorite authors.
