Halls of the Dark Muse

The Power of Love

Rate this Entry
From For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway

She said nothing is done to oneself that one does not accept and that if I loved someone it would take it all away.

Coincidently enough shortly before this book was chosen as a litnet group read my boyfriend and I ended up in a discussion about it. We were talking about books and authors in general and Hemingway came up, and I in general love Hemingway and he told me he enjoyed this book and it is one I have not yet read.

In many ways this quote does make me think about our own relationship and things we have been through.

I can really understand why he enjoyed this book, and knowing of his own experiences with war and having that personal connection, I really feel this book on a deeper level.

It's been many many years since I read it. I did not think it was one of Hemingway's best. But I have noticed that a lot of people enjoy it. So did you read it DM? I'm wondering what you think. Has you boyfriend read The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell To Arms? I'm wondering what he thinks of those novels.

I am in the process of reading it. Just began chapter eight, so far I am really enjoying it. I agree thus far it may not be as good as The Sun Also Rises or A Farewll To Arms, but I am still quite enjoying it.

I am not sure if he read those two. I know he read The Old Man and the Sea.

It's a great book and better if you have someone to share it with.
