day in a life

When to talk and when to not

Rate this Entry
I was sitting at a cafe this morning with my brother and we started talking to a guy sitting on the next table. He is studying Christianity and doing his BA. Well he and my brother were talking about some stuff regarding his thesis and I started thinking 'this is a moment when I'm not gonna talk' my brother is very spiritual and meditates every morning and sometimes again later in the day. They were talking about this hole people try to fill with faith and this search for life after death and meaning and all that crap. I don't think there is a meaning and I hope there is nothing after death. I had no place in this conversation.

Why is it that people think everybody needs some big meaning in life, why can't I just do things any way I want and it has no bigger meaning.

this just makes life even more complicated.

Ultimately, everyone does what they want in a democracy, within or outside the law. You do what you want and they do what they want. The law, well published, is best to respect. The rest is mindfu**ing and totally useless. Have fun if you can.

Without ascribing 'meaning' to life or as I like to call a 'reason' to live, the purpose of living is not very apparent. I personally find a reason to live in the small acts of habitual kindness people project and that I try to convey, such as a little smile, a concise 'hello', a wave of the hand, and a friendly 'goodbye'. The Founding Fathers of the United States realized that the 'meaning' of life that everyone so desperately seeks can be summed up in 'happiness', and that that in it's own right may only be 'pursued'. The question should not be relative to the 'size' of the so called 'big' meaning of life, but rather what YOU as an individual consider this precious little time that you have in this world to mean.

I have to say I agree with you. I do at times wonder why people are so obsessed with the need of having to ascribe some grander meaning to their existince. I see we should each make our own individual meaning, not attribute it to something outside of us. But the meaning of our life is within what we decide to do with our life, whatever that might be.

my thoughts are simple, it's evolution! No purpose! do what you want and then die and be eaten. This is not a depressing thought to me it makes life easy and whatever I want it to be

Did you feel that they expected you to talk, or agree with them? That's not really fun to encounter that attitude, but your feelings and opinions should be respected.

I hope you enjoyed the coffee, anyway.

I would probably sleep better if I could renounce the idea that life has no meaning or purpose. I almost but not quite envy this state of mind. But ultimately I have obligations and debts to pay both morally and spiritually. I do like the comfort of of a God that takes perhaps more interest in what I do then is comfortable sometimes. Be at peace.
