Tomorrow It Will Not Rain Miso Soup

Rate this Entry
Something odd happened yesterday. I happened to say that I didn't think it would snow again because it seemed to be getting a little warmer and the mice seemed anxious to get back outside. Not long after writing that I found out that it was snowing. Spooky.

So. If miso soup rains down from above tomorrow then we can conclude that I have some kind of powers in regards to the weather. Tomorrow is the long awaited Pancake Day. I'm quite looking forward to it, even though I won't be eating them at, what most people consider to be, breakfast time.

Had my first go at Nama chocolate. It's okay but could be better. Doesn't help that I used cheap milk chocolate instead of dark because mum doesn't like dark chocolate, also I didn't put any alcohol in it. Alcohol is nasty. I put it into a heart shaped ice cube mould to make heart chocolates. Worked pretty well.

Now more on pancakes.

There are different styles of pancake, of course. For starters there's the small fat kind and the wide thin kind. In my opinion there's only one way to eat pancakes on Pancake Day. That's definitely the thin kind. I used to like them flat but you don't get as much sugar on them that way, unless you cut through a stack of pancakes instead of just one. So I now find that rolling them up makes things much easier. Then sprinkled with a very generous helping of sugar and lemon juice. It's best to have too much sugar than lemon juice. It's also best when the sugar absorbs the juice and makes a kind of crust over the pancakes.

Tesco were selling syrup with the pancake stuff too. Who'd have syrup on pancakes? Admittedly syrup is better than lemon and sugar on the fat pancakes but who would have fat pancakes on Pancake Day? It's always flat ones for Pancake day. Syrup is also good in porridge.

The snow's almost completely melted now. How strange. I really will have to wait another year to make snow bunnies I guess. It's a good thing really because I can't find any plants with red berries for the eyes now and stones just aren't the same.

Bluebiird out.

You have given me a reason to wake up tomorrow, Bluebiird, just to see if it's raining Miso!

But seriously, about pancakes. You eat syrup on them when you were raised with syrup on pancakes as the standard. I love syrup on pancakes. When you were talking about lemon juice and powder-and I'm assuming you mean powdered sugar-I was like "Wha...?"

Maybe I'll try it sometime. In any event, Happy Pancake Day!!!! Hope it's a good 'un!

Pancake Day I assume is the same as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday. My mother makes a sort of Italian Cheesecake, but it might even be heavier in the stomach if that is possible. She gave it to us on Tuesday and now we have left over and I've given up deserts and snacks (and alcohol) for Lent, and I have already cheated. Darn cake is in the refrigerator and I have no will power.

Your pancakes sound great. I have had pancakes both thin and fluffy and I like them both. I'm not sure I have a preference.

It didn't rain miso soup. Clearly the snow was just coincidence then. Pancake day was okay but a bit of a letdown. Since I only make pancakes about once a year it takes about 3 failures before I start getting it right. Also the powdered pancake mix is a bit of a rip off really. You only get six if you do it right. I got five but the first one was a little too thick, severely under cooked and twisted because it stuck to the pan. I'm thinking about making some from scratch some time.
Hope you both had a good day.

And by the way Virgil, if you've given up sweets for lent then don't see the cheesecake as sweets. See it as.....an obligation and a tradition. As it would be sinful to let it go to waste I think you'll be forgiven for eating it, as long as you don't eat any other sweets besides that .

Oh and yes. Pancake Day is pretty much the same as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras and is the day before Ash Wednesday. It also goes by the name of Shrove Tuesday. But since I'm not a religious person I focus on the tradition of pancakes, so it's Pancake Day.

Oh and qimissung, the sugar I use on pancakes is granulated. When I say it forms a crust that's not quite accurate but I couldn't think of the right words.

LOL! You should be a lawyer. That's brilliant.
