Peace be on you.
Understanding fate or destiny is an important issue. It is part of belief in God. God has holy attributes. The manifestation of these attributes is called Qadar / Destiny. Holy Prophet (pbuh) has emphasized the importance of belief in Qadar.
Misunderstanding about Destiny
The misunderstanding about Destiny has caused distorsions in various religions. It includes theories and practices based on reincarnation, salvation through sonship, declaring Law of God (Shariah) as curse, atheism, special-salvation, uncontrolled-freedom and inactivness.
Two incorrect views
These are: i- Whatever people do, it is because of the Will of God. ii- People are the one who do everything and in this regard, there is no role of God.
In fact, according to Holy Quran
i- People are given choice, God does not force anything
“There should be no compulsion in religion. Surely, right has become distinct from wrong; so whosoever refuses to be led by those who transgress, and believes in Allah, has surely grasped a strong handle which knows no breaking. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Knowing.” (2:257)
ii- God has issued Destiny too
For example: “Allah has decreed: ‘Most surely I will prevail, I and My Messengers.’ Verily, Allah is Powerful, Mighty.” (58:22)
Knowlede of God and Destiny should not be confused as same
God is Knower of everything (al-Aleem) God is All-Powerful (al-Qadeer, Qadar / Destiny is derived from it). A person does not commit an act because God already knew it.. It is other way round, God knows that someone would do a particular act that is why God knew that the person would do it. Worldy life is a trial. Divine teaching have come. It is like, people are sitting in exam and solving problems. Those who solve according to divine teaching, they would get blessing and vice versa. That is why God do not interrupt usually. But on times, He does; it is when a seeker supplicates, when an innocent is persecuted or when His Grand scheme requires and so on.
Types of Destiny
1- Common Physical Destiny. God has made a Destiny, according to which God has placed built-in physical properties in things. For example, fire burns and water satisfies thirst etc. This Destiny works in physical world. These are common physical laws. It is not spiritual.
2- Special Physical Destiny. Sometimes, God issues special orders about a particular physical matter that a certain thing should happen in a certain manner. It happens.
3- Common Spiritual Destiny. This Destiny is for spiritual matters. For example, according to it, law and effects has been written that if a believer offers Salaat / Prayer with such degree of humbleness, he or she would be blessed in such and such way.
4- Special Spiritual Destiny. It is the special Grace of God. For example, coming of revelation. “The Gracious – Who has taught the Quran.” (54: 2,3)
Relation between Destiny and (Ways and) Means
This relation has various forms. The Common Destiny is unfolded within visible means. The Special Destiny is unfolded through turn of existing evil means into good means, or by use of counter means or good means are produced against bad means.
Sometimes, Special Destiny appears and means are hidden. On some occasions, Special Destiny appears basically without means but certain means are included too.
A Special Destiny manifests without any means whatsoever. This type is only for Prophets and believers. For example, when, Holy Prophet (pbuh) was migrating from Mecca to Madina after suffering a long period of persecution by disbelievers. During the journey, he (pbuh) and his Companion Hadhrat Abu Bakr (r.a) made a stay in Cave-Thor. The chasing disbelieving party, by the help of expert detective, were able to reach at the mouth of Cave. Detective told them that signs end here. The party was chasing for three miles, they climbed the mountain, now they were standing at the opening. Next logical step was to bend the neck and see what they came for. It was that easy………….. But they just ended the search and returned. Similary there were other miracles too like his touch multiplied the water…..The ardent devotee of Holy Prophet (pbuh), the promised Messiah (a.s.) was graced with miracles too.
Working of certain Destinies
God has made some law which are governing the universe; it is called Common Destiny. But when God executes Special Destinies, then Common Destinies are either made subservient to the Special Destinies or Common Destinies are discontinued. For example, when Hadhrat Ibrahim (a.s.) was put in fire, it was made cool. Such Destinies are not usual, they are sent to help special servants of God. Sometimes, such Special Destinies are sent to help someone who deserves special divine mercy. On occasions, the Special Destinies manifest through heart and mind or speech of a person or through other limbs. Upon it, the person’s tendencies do not go against it. Such person, sometime, has to use means so that mercy of God is absorbed. On occasions, God wants to demonstrate His Granduuer and one cannot use the means.
Change in Destiny
=Common Physical Destiny (by virtue of laws and properties of physical universe) can be changed by just using the some other Common Destiny. For example, one ignites a fire, the other extinguishes it with water.
=Common Destiny can be changed by Special Destiny. For example, by virtue of Common Destiny, someone can be killed. But Holy Prophet (pbuh) was especially promised: “ O Messenger! Convey (to the people), what has been revealed to thee from thy Lord; and if thou do it not, thou hast not conveyed His Message (at all). Surely, Allah will protect thee from people. Surely Allah guides not the disbelieving group.” (5:68)
The promised Messiah Mahdi (a.s.), the ardent devotee of Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) was saved by God too.
=Special Destiny is changeable with other Special Destiny. For example, someone persecutes the believers of Truth and crosses the limits and God issues a special decree of chastisement. Latter, the person repents and brings changes in him or her. Upon it, God issues another Special Decree of mercy for the person.
Destiny and Prophecies
Prophecy is the expression of Power of God. Prophecy is opportunity for correction. Prophesies are of two kinds; those which are due to the Eternal Knowledge of God, and those which are for the sake of manifestation of Authority and Power of God. This second kind which is withdraw-able, is under Divine Attribute al-Qadeer (All Powerful). The certain prophecies are withdrawn due to the positive changes in the person who hears and understand the warning in prophecy. (The Unavoidable Destiny is only changeable into another Destiny but it does not go away. Only with Intercession by Chosen ones with permission of God, it goes away.)
Destiny and human effort
In general, with Destiney human effort combines and deeds are produced. However, certain Destinies have no link with human efforts. God is Pure; He does not initiate a Destiny for evil works. If God was to enforce Destiny, He would have insisted human to do good works. But then there would have been no concept of good rewards. Satanic influence is Satanic Destiny and it only works for those who choose to do bad; they befriend with Evil. Such person comes under God’s laws of cause and effect; the person chooses negative path therefore the negative result is produced.
Acceptance of Prayers and Destiny
Acceptance of Prayer is a fact. God is Knower of Unseen. He knew by virtue of His Knowledge that latter, at some time, my servant would pray for some solution of some matter which would not be possible under Common Destiny. God, by virtue of His Knowledge, had placed the essentials to fullfil the request of the servant, when request come. This is Special Destiny.
NEEDS TO HAVE FAITH ABOUT DESTINY / QADAR
Belief in God
As it is explained earlier that manifestation of attributes of God is Qadar / Destiny. It is essential part of faith. All systems of world are working under properties of matter and it is Common Destiny. Likewise, all spirituality is related with Special Destiny. God’s powers are seen more effectively with it. Prophets’ revelations and prophecies come true i.e. the Special Destiny unfolds and existence of God is understood; powerful signs of God are similar to He unveiling His face. Without faith in Destiny, faith in God is not complete.
Strong relation with God
The faith in God, without faith in His-made Destiny, does not achieve purity and love with God, because personal relation with God lacks. Destiny is a connecting bridge between human and God.
Repentance and salvation
If Destiny was not there, most people would have deprived of salvation. There are people who commit sins in the beginning, but when they understand they get rid of them. If everything was the commited deeds, and reward was to be given according to done deeds, then there would have been no salvation. But God has written a Destiny that if a person repents truly, God wipes the previous sins. “….Surely, good works drives away evil works…..” (11:115)
Safety through special law
When common laws and properties (Common Destiny) does not work, humble prayers attracts God’s Special Destiny. For example, when Hadhrat Moses (a.s) was commanded by God to go to some place. At a place there was no water for him and companions. He prayed to God and he was directed to hit his rod at a particular place. They found water. Water was there since long but why? It was there because a Moses was to go there latter and get water.
Success of reformers
God establishes His Unity and Prophets comes with His Message. With the passage of time, corruption infiltrates in morals and religions. Unity of God is forgotten. Prophets are sent again. They are of two types; with Book or with only Reminder of previous Book……..Those who come with new Divine Book / Shariah are sent without worldy means so that God makes clear His Message is not dependent on people. [note: Hadhart David (a.s.) and Hadhrat Solomon (a.s.) were Prophets and Kings; they were not maker of new Community] When Holy Prophet (pbuh) declared that idols were nothing, he did not possess ways and means. The Meccans living was associated with idols. If possession of worldly wealth was to be decisive factor, the Holy Prophet (pbuh) had no chance and world would have continue to sink deeper in darkness. The Special Destiny i.e. “Allah has decreed: Most surely I will prevail, I and My Messengers…..” (58:22) who helps Prophets.
FAITH IN DESTINY HELPS CLIMB 7 SPIRITUAL STAGES
Stage 1- Faith in Destiny helps spirituality to stay and it encourages others to follow Divine teachings by observing better morals and relation with God.
Stage 2- It helps faithful to get benefit of Destiny of trials in the path of God. Opportunity of self-reforms and showing forebearance and the pleasure of God is obtained.
Stage 3- It helps faithful to have trust in God to get His safety and sustenance from Him and put all time in service of His cause.
Stage 4- It helps faithful to become real servant of God and uses ways and means with new point of view of being servant.
Stage 5- Servant studies weakness of self and seeks help through Special Spiritual Destiny; the Prayer to seek Divine help for the purpose.
Stage 6- By seeing fruits of acceptance of prayes, this advanced faithful tries to gets nearer to God and imbibes spiritual colour of Unity of God (at human level). Holy Prophet (pbuh) says that servant of God gets so nearer to God, by offering Nawafil (additional to obligatory worship and virtues), that God says He becomes such servant’s limbs………. Such conditions stays for longer times.
Stage 7- At this most advanced stage, the person becomes Manifest-Destiny. The person remains human but divine-like signs are manifested through him. The person does nothing but what God desires. “Nor does he speak out of (his own) desire.—It is nothing but (pure) revelation (that has been) revealed (by God).” (53: 4,5). Grandeur of God shines through this person. It is status of Prophethood; it is the window through which God manifests. Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) is full manifestation of this stage.
