Peace be on you. These words “Is not Allah sufficient for His servent?” are from Holy Quran (from ch39 : v37). These words are comfort to every pious person who becomes servant of God. Lives of all Prophets and other righteous people bear witness to these words of God. The brighests manifestation of these words of God was seen in the life events of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him and his beloveds). The second Khalifah of Promised Messiah Mahdi has explained the matter in various writings and addresses (directly or indirectly).
These words “Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?” ( from ch 39) were double prophecy for the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.). These words told:
1- There would be continuous dangers in his life.
2- He would be continuously saved by God Almighty.
(1) The life of Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) faced the first danger when his father passed away and he was within his mother, not yet born. Soon after he was born, there came his grandfather Abdul Muttalib, he took the the little child in his lap and said: The beautiful face like moon ! . Then he carried the baby to Baitullah (House of Allah – The Kaaba) and offered thanks to God. The grace and blessing of God filled the heart of grandfather with special love. This was the first manifestation of “Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?”
(2) The huge mission-to-come for the child (p.b.u.h.) required that he must grow into a healthy strong person who was to become Chief of all Prophets. Mecca was in shortage of fruits, vegetables and water. Supplies would come from outside. It was customary that Meccans would send their babies of age five or six months to outside villages and brought them back at age nine or ten years. Some people would bring them back after one or two years. Such children would become healthy and learned pure language. The language in the city could not remain pure due to constant influence of external tribes. Every six months, ladies from villages would come to Mecca and locals would send their children with them.
House of Abdul Muttalib was famous thus several women-nurses visited to get the baby (p.b.u.h.) but when they learned that father of the baby had died, they left, thinking there was no chance for reward. A lady Halima came too and left also. She spent whole day but people would not consider her as she was poor. So, all visiting women-nurses did not choose the baby (p.b.u.h.) and all families with babies did not select Halima. Shyly, she came back to mother of baby (p.b.u.h.). The mother of baby (p.b.u.h.) sent the baby with her. But she was thinking that nurse was poor and nurse was hopeless about reward.
The nurse Halima said that when she returned home, by God! our those goats whose milk had been dried, started to give milk due to blessed child and her home filled with blessing. She brought the child (p.b.u.h.) after two years to his mother (Hadhrat Amenah). The mother gave her the reward, whatever she could afford. The affection of child (p.b.u.h.) in the heart of nurse forced her to request his mother to grant permission so that she could keep the child for more time. It was granted. She brought him back after two years. Now child (p.b.u.h.) was four years old. She was rewarded again.
Many years latter:
After the fall of Mecca, some tribes who had ambitions to eliminate Islam, heard the news late. They gathered for fight. (It was battle of Hunain.) Eventually they were defeated too. People of tribe of nurse Halima were among the prisoners of war. They felt hesitation to ask Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) for pardon. The daughter of Halima came for intercession and Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) freed all her 3000 people without taking any money. Even if only counted in monetary terms, it was very huge reward which went to nurse Halima.
Definitely God was sufficient for his servant even when as a baby (p.b.u.h.) he was not chosen by nurses. And due to him (p.b.u.h.), others were blessed too.
(3) Then child (p.b.u.h.)’s grandfather passed away too. Before his end time came, he called his son Abu Talib and said him as Will to take care of child (p.b.u.h.) as his trust and love him more than anything. Eventhough Abu Talib was not rich and had many children of his own. He loved and took care of child (p.b.u.h.) more than his own children. God filled very special affection in his heart for the child (p.b.u.h.).
(4) The child became young man (p.b.u.h.), he did not possess resources to start any business, he did not know any skill either. God helped him. Young man (p.b.u.h.) was known as ‘Ameen’ (trustworthy). A trade caravan was going to Syria. A rich lady-merchant Khadijah asked him if he could take her merchandise with the carvan for trade, he would be rewarded the agreed upon share. [At that age usually, people go here and there to seek jobs, but in this cae, the rich person came to him]. The young man (p.b.u.h.) succeeded in the trip because of his honesty and hard work; the profit was very high. [Earlier, the lady would give material to servants and they would not work with honesty.] He presented all profit to the lady. She was surprised. Her servants (who accompanied the young man) revealed to her that in past they would use the earnings but this time young man (p.b.u.h.) did not let them touch the profit. He proved to be honest trader and manager.
One day, a female friend of rich lady merchant suggested to her that she was still young (widow), she could marry the honest young man (p.b.u.h.) who was popular as trustworthy. She agreed with friend but said she was afraid that her father would not allow it. The friend said she would do the rest. She got approval from lady’s father. Then went to young man (p.b.u.h.) and asked him if he would like to marry a pious rich woman? He said he did not have anything then how that would happen? The woman said: You possess that which every woman wishes to see in her husband – honesty, trustworthiness and nobility. He said he required permission from his uncle. She said she would handle it too. By the grace of God, the blessed marriage took place.
One day, the pious wife thought that her virtuous and modest husband might not feel comfortable with the great difference of wealth. She said to him that she wanted to gift all her wealth and slaves to him. He asked her to think again. She said she was sure. He said: Fine, then first act of mine is to free all slaves. One of salves, Zaid, refused to get free because of his master’s high morals. [when his father and relatives came to get him, he insisted to stay with the master (p.b.u.h.)]
Again, God fulfilled his promise with His servant every time; granted him means of sustenance, pious life companion and an assistant for tasks.
(5) Maturity is of two types; physical and spiritual. When the young man (p.b.u.h.) reached near age of his spiritual maturity, he felt repulsion for the corruption in society and in various faiths around. He had never believed in associates of One God. Yet, he did not know the pure Unity of God which is learned through Law of God / Shariah. His soul started to agitate in search of perfect Unity, knowledge and wisdom. He had loving wife and dear friends but they could not help him in this matter. For continous rememberance of God, he would leave them for days and go to a mountain cave (Hira). He would come back to get some food and would go back for worship…..He wanted to find the true path toward God from God…..During his supplications, one day, an angel appeared to him and brought the revelation from God: “Read and convey thou in the name of thy Lord Who created. – Created human from a clot of blood. -- Read and convey! And thy Lord is most Generous. -- Who taught (human) by the pen. -- Taught human what he knew not.” (Holy Quran 96:2 to 6)
Thus God fulfilled the spiritual need of guiadance when it was needed and proved “Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?”
(6) He had received the Ultimate Truth and Guidance but he was worried whether the world would accept it or not? As soon as he shared his experience with her pious wife (Hadhrat) Khadijah, she believed in him and said: God will never waste you since you are merciful, you help people in trouble, you reinstate the lost morals, you take care of guests and you help the oppressed ones. Similarly, all close ones immediately believed in the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.).
Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.)’s Message of Unity of God and human rights continued to get acceptance. It pierced through the thick and dark curtains of severe persecutions of all known types by the individuals or groups or governments. The divine promise of sufficiency of God continued to be true for His servant (p.b.u.h.).
(7) Weakening of faith in this era was foretold by God and Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.). The declining conditions and signs were prophecied in terms of events in the areas of morals, knowledge, civilization, physical conditions, relations, politics, changes in climate, astronomy, emergence of new sciences etc. ....The real remedy was foretold too as the appearance of an ardent devotee of Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) with the title of Promised Messaih and Mahdi and his Khilafat after him. The continuing of this peaceful revival phenomenon of faith (Reference: alislamDOTorg and mtaDOTtv) is again the fulfilling of promise of Allah Almighty with Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) - “Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?”
