Day 10

It's getting to be less of a count up and more of a countdown now. 15 days to go.
Today I got another present and the dog got a green twisty bone.
So. Halloween. I say it every year. Halloween brings out my dark side. All the little costumes and decorations they bring out are just so sweet.
I got some pumpkin shaped muffin moulds. I wasn't entirely sure what I'd do with them. I planned to make some cakes or jellies or chocolates or something. (I made the jellies with gummy sweets inside later on for fun. It was a disaster. Good thing I didn't do them for Halloween).
I got some orange chocolate and made pumpkin shaped chocolates. Only six but they were okay. I filled in details like the eyes and mouth with a little dark chocolate then filled them with some melted marshmallow (that re-set very quickly) that I coloured green and stuck them down onto a wafer biscuit. (They were actually pretty thick. I was actually planning on something like an ice cream wafer but I couldn't find any so I settled on those.) I went around the edges with some more dark chocolate to seal it all together. I cut a corner off of some sandwich bags and tied them with silver ribbon (I could only find silver at the time).
All in all not exactly what I wanted but it worked out fine.
We got a pumpkin shaped plastic bowl and filed it with assorted sweets, and my pumpkins. I carved a new Beelzekin. This one had bigger features but no horns. Due to him looking better than the first one I named him Lord Beelzekin. He kept going out because it was windy but he did well. I also got a better light for Sebastian so he could stand out more.
Unfortunately I left it too long to cook Lord Beelzekin and he started to rot. It felt very wasteful but at least I didn't have to cut him up. So no pumpkin pie this year. I'm not that good at pies anyway.
I put my costume from last year back together. I used an older knife this time, more in keeping with the maid's persona I'd come up with last year. I got a tube of blood early. Twice as big as the crappy one last year. Since last year's bloody apron was bloody enough I didn't need so much. I used about half smearing blood on the window.
I happen to have a proper tube of black lipstick this year so that was handy but the eye shadow I used last year didn't seem to work so well this year. I wonder if I did something differently. Maybe it's because it's old now. I also put on some glow in the dark nail varnish but it wasn't very noticeable unless I held my nails over a light. That would take too long. It was a bugger to remove too because I couldn't see all of it without shining a light on my nails.
So. I had to sit there for about an hour or so before children came. I really needed to pee but I didn't want to be upstairs if any came. There were slim pickings this year so I had plenty of time to pee in the end. I couldn't play anything, listen to anything, or watch anything because I had to listen out for footsteps so I could be ready. If you take too long they'll think you're not interested and move on.
I had to drink through a straw because my lipstick smeared. I had one of my pumpkins to eat. I wanted to make sure it was alright before I gave any to children. Last thing I wanted was to be the source of Halloween E. coli or something. Or the woman who chipped children's teeth or made disgusting sweets. They were okay. A little hard to break but once they'd warmed up it was easier. Of course. I had to be careful of smearing my lipstick (my pumpkin was left out from the moment I started getting ready until I was out of costume because once I'd tasted it I had a million and one other things to be doing).
So. Eventually I hear children. Now I must stress that the first children that came last year were rather excited by the blood. One said something like there's blood. Someone's been murdered. He was joking of course, trying to tease a little terror out of his companions but then I opened the door, bloodied apron and knife sticking out. An interesting mix or horror and entertainment in their expressions.
Last year that really boosted my confidence regarding the whole thing. This year was very different.
It seems that the weather was against us this year. Because it was cold and windy not many children were out.
This year I was just heading to the kitchen when I heard voices. It was a very young child and a guardian (I guess the father but you should never assume these things, uncles, aunties, older children and other children's parents will often accompany children instead of the parents.)
The little one was saying there's blood I don't want to go there and the guardian was trying to convince him it wasn't real. That's all well and good but not helpful if the door is answered by a woman with a knife in her stomach. There was an older child too who wasn't at all bothered. The little one was hesitant about taking any sweets. He looked at if what I was offering didn't appeal to him. The whole time I'm bent down thinking just hurry up and take something ungrateful child. I'm not obligated to give you any sweets. I choose to. Because the little one took so long the older one went back for seconds. He didn't snatch so I didn't mind. Eventually the little one took something and I came back in feeling guilty. Last year's children were quite excited to see my costume. This one seems to have terrorised one.
The idea behind the blood and everything is to scare them but not so much that they have nightmares. It's supposed to be a kind of Ah! Haha that's pretty good kind of scare or as they leave you hear them talking about how scary it was but you can tell they enjoyed it. This one really didn't feel like that. It felt like the poor child would probably have nightmares rather than a laugh or a chat about it later on. That kind of kicked my mood down a bit.
We got another group some time later. Quite a large group with about four adults in wigs and cackling so loudly they might as well have been screaming. They stated by the gate, one or two pushing buggies for some reason. The adults were more into it than the children. These ones were barely fazed buy my attire and seemed genuinely impressed with the sweet offering. All of my pumpkins went with considerable excitement. I was pleased by this lot.
It took a while for them to leave the street. How do I know this? Because every time a door opened the adults did that screaming cackle.
By about 9 or 9:30 I decided to give up. I got changed and took off all my makeup. Just then we got more children but mum had to open the door because I wasn't decent. These children were the best yet. They were very excited by it all and said this was the best house they'd been to. Mum said that if they'd been here earlier I would've been in costume. They seemed a little disappointed by that but they didn't mind so much.
With the blood, Lord Belzekin and an noticeable Sebastian I think it was a pretty cool house myself.
In case you've forgotten Sebastian is my gargoyle. He's there year round, looking out for evil spirits but I like to show him off for Halloween. It's the best time for him.
So. That was my Halloween. I'm including some pictures but they're quite grainy. It's not a very good camera.

These two are of Beelzekin last year. Sebastian is barely noticable in the background.

This is Lord Beelzekin. I think he's quite striking. Sebastian is more noticable here.

These are just Yuki looking evil. The first one is the original. The second one is flipped. She looks so evil there. She's not snarling. She just likes to lay on her back and gravity ends up showing off those lovely fangs.
That's all.
Bluebiird out.
