Barmy Blue's Bland Blog

On the 8th Day

Blue began her descent into madness and homicidal rage. I went out to Christmas shop as planned. Dis-as-ter. The shops round here are pretty crappy. I had some plans of what to get from having browsed online. Pretty much everything I hoped to get wasn't there. I actually bought more for myself to cheer myself up. I was looking to see if there were any Dean Koontz books mum hadn't read (they're next to the manga, sci-fi and graphic novel section.) there weren't. But I spied a huge Azumanga Daioh omnibus. I saw the anime a couple of years ago. It's very fun. So I got myself the book.

I'm expecting a phone call any minute. You see, mum's aunt died a while ago and it made me sad. I don't recall ever having met her but I still felt sad and it got me thinking about the aunt I don't see any more (the wife of my uncle who died of lung cancer). She's a big Clif Richard fan so I've been looking for a good gift for her. I planned to call her some time ago to fish for what she might already have or have her eye on.

Today Napoleon calls to tell mum (who was still out) that his old work friend (who was sort of a friend of hers as a result) that old friend's older brother just died of cancer and would she like to go to the funeral? While he was on the phone I told him what mum would appreciate for Christmas and enquired about this aunt of mine.

He said that a good time to call her would be between 6-7pm. So. I did. Guess what. She'd just sat down to dinner. Well, don't I just feel like a complete invader. We haven't spoken to her for a while so when I told her it was me calling she asked if anything was wrong? It's kind of sad but true that something has to be wrong for her to get a call from us .

So. I'm pretending that I haven't gone out and mum either believes me or can't be bothered to question me. I also got my secret Santa gift. To be honest I didn't want to go for a generic "surely anyone of this age and gender would like this" but I ended up doing it. Being restricted to a £10 limit for the secret Santa is a bit annoying.

So. Today I got a snowman that looked more like some kind of dumpling man and Yuki got the last type of treat, a green knot bone. She's now had one of everything that calendar seems to offer. I've got the blanket off of my desk so now I can get to work on my other stuff.

I didn't have time to put the window decorations up but that's okay.

Bluebiird out.

p.s. typed this up quite fast so forgive any mistakes.

The "dumpling" snow man. That made me giggle.

I'm reading these out of order. This was a sad one. I hope your other Advent blogs are happier.
