Yes I am a Dork

Rate this Entry
I was watching this TV show The Big Bang Theory, and well that itself is probably enough to make me a dork, because the show is a sitcom about a group of science nerds that are either friends and or roommates and on the show one of the characters was freaked out by this bird perched on his window sill and would not leave and he was afraid of birds.

At one point he referred to the bird as being a blue jaw, and when they showed the bird up close I knew it wasn't really a blue jay. I thought maybe it might have been a different species of jay, though it did not look like any jays of which I am familiar with. It did almost resemble a scrub jay, but had a few differences so I do not think it can be that.

So even though it would really serve no purpose but to satisfy my own curiosity, I have now become obsessed with wanting to figure out what kind of bird it really was. I have been searching all the bird books I have and trying to search the Internet to see if I can find anything that looks like it, though since I do not know what kind of species the bird on the TV show may have been I know odds are I will never figure out what it was unless by chance I do come across an image of it somewhere.

Maybe it was a puppet bird. Maybe they made up the species.

It was a black-throated magpie jay. They refer to it on the second page of the article and provide a link to show the species of bird. I have never heard of a black-throated magpie jay.

Argh. The link just goes to a twitter page or something like that. Here is a link to a picture of the bird. They are very pretty.
