I am writing an essay about Les Fleur du Mal and I absolutely love it. This is my kind of poetry, I have been talking about reading Baudelaire for years, and I mean YEARS but never did cause I am not a fan of translated poetry but I am reading it for school now. I could choose from 25 books, plays and poems and I just fell for Baudelaire, I am really slow I guess for not realizing it earlier. 'Une charogne' is one of the most beautiful poems I have read, this is the kind of poetry I'd like being recited for me, I love many of the romantics too but this is love! (don't really care if it was written for a prostitute or not)

It's Friday and I have been looking forward to this weekend all week, I have the boy and we are gonna watch Iron man and x-men first class and eat pizza and just have fun. This is my favorite time with him, when everything is quiet after dinner. We have been playing cards all week after dinner, he is getting very good, also of course he is a game inventor I mean he made that 'Dogtor who' board game, yes with a 'g'. I went online to try and find some simple Doctor who board game but nothing I found fits him, maybe I am not giving him enough credit, I don't know but it would be fun.

The 29th is my mom's birthday, she will be 14 (56) and we are gonna cook for her (my brother and his girlfriend will probably cook though and I will watch them). the 29th is also Superman's birthday so I asked my boy if he didn't want to go wearing his Superman costume, he said yes and thought it was very cool but it is a birthday party so he added that underneath the costume he would be wearing fancy clothes. He loves dressing up and no costume will change that!

OK, when I was growing up I would sing the songs my parents listened to, so that was the Beatles and the Kinks and a few other bands. Now my son sings the songs I listen to, I can't help but smile when the sentences he picks up are so wrong coming out of his young mouth. Like last year he would sing the John Grant song 'Baby, you're where dreams go to die', now he sings 'I have forgiven Jesus' by Morrissey. this is just so wrong coming from him... I'm just happy he's not singing 'the father who must be killed'.

Well,it's getting warmer on the ice, looks like spring is coming kinda loved the big winter we got this year (or last year). I should get back to my essay now.

Helga, your blog is always full of family-related subjects. I think it must be the most family-related blog, or one of them at least, and you have a particular style to write about it. I like it, and I think you are a fine writer of family stories

Other than a poem or two, I've never read Baudelaire. My reading of French poetry is lacking. Actually, now that I think of it, my reading of non-English poetry is lacking. I know what you mean about translated poetry. Unfortunately it's impossible to capture the sound and rhythm of a language in another language unless the languages are close relatives like the Romance or Scandinavian languages, and even then I bet something is lost. And sound and rhythm are vital to appreciating poetry.

Ironman is my favorite! Hope he likes him.

Your son sounds so cute. Hope he enjoyed Ironman. I know what you mean about loving that time after dinner but before bed. I make it a point to just take one night of every week and do "movie night" with my children. They love it, and it's a great way to spend a Friday evening when we're normally to worn out to do much else.
