At least one problem solved

Rate this Entry
I was very irritated because I thought my computer was having yet another problem. I went to open up IE (Internet Explorer) and I have Google as my homepage, and because I have a Google account, I use iGoogle, which is just a way you can customize your homepage. Well I open up IE and see I have been signed out of iGoogle, which is not that big of a deal, it happens sometimes. I sign back in and get a message telling me there was an error with cookies and I need to clear my cache, again no big deal I have had to do that with web sites before. I delete my cookies, clear my cache and go to sign in again and get the exact same message.

Now I am like ok? Seriously? At first I think well maybe I forgot to hit yes, or save or something, so I go to clear my cache again, try to sign back in and still same message. I try closing IE opening it back up and than signing in, but that does not prevail. So I search Google's help, and cannot find anything useful, I just keep finding things telling me how to clear my cache which I already know how to do, but nothing about if doing that still doesn't work, and I found no way to contact anyone.

Than I think, screw it I will just create a new homepage, but when I click on the button to create the homepage nothing happens, so I cannot get that to work either. Just for the heck of it, I decide to open Google Chrome which I also have and than open iGoogle on Chrome, and when I did that it worked fine. So I began to think maybe the problem is just that my IE is too out of date it is no longer working properly. That is why I had to get Chrome in the first place, because I was having trouble on some web sites with my browser but there are things about Chrome I don't like which is why I still wanted to keep IE, and I cannot get the newest version of IE because I have Windows XP and the newest versions of IE are only compatible with Windows 7 or Vista, which I don't want because they suck. (And I know this from personal experience attempting to use someone else's computer with Windows 7).

So I am pretty annoyed thinking I am not going to be able to use iGoogle anymore on IE but it is not the end of the world and won't affect how anything works just an aesthetic preference. As a last resort I decide to try restarting my computer and sure enough, that actually worked when I signed back onto iGoogle it came up no problem.

But than I freaked out because I thought it wasn't working again because I had closed IE to go take a shower and when I got back and opened it up again, it showed me as not being signed in again, and so I thought, don't tell me it is happening again? But than I remembered when I deleted my cookies I forgot to uncheck the "delete browser history on exit" box. So now everything should be working properly.

Geez, sounds confusing. I wish I knew a little more about computers.

Seriously, you sound pretty literate. I get what you are talking about, but I am not able to compare all the different browsers and program. My husband tell me what to use and work tells me what to use, so I just do what I am told. LOL! Glad you remembered that you cleared the cookies! When I clear my history, I always panic when I have to relog-in to all my sites. But with patience, it always works out.

I never heard of iGoogle. I use IE mostly though I have had problems. When do I usually switch to Firefox. I kind of like Firefox.

When it comes to anything to do with technology sometimes I surprise myself with what I know. There are a lot of things about computers and electronics which I don't understand, but I usually have a natural ability of being able to figure things out on my own and catching on to things when I can play with something for a while. Most of what I know about using computers I discovered on my own by simply using them a lot.

Sometimes other people will start asking me questions about how to do things on the computer and I am shocked when I find out I actually can help them lol

iGoogle is pretty much identical to Google, but if you have a Google account, than iGoogle allows you customize your Google homepage, so you can add widgets to it, and instead of just having the normal Google logo, you can choose from countless different images or upload your own.

I don't worry about IE much anymore because it's really slow compared with Opera which has a turbo function for slow sites, but Opera has a reduced page size so the font has to be slightly smaller or bottom scrollbar-ed a lot. The thing with IE though is I have a lot of bookmarks in it which I've never gotten around to transferring. Maybe I should do that now?

Chrome's an okay inbetween - it does fire up pretty fast where IE seems to take a while to check all its settings and plugins, so generally if I'm opening a second browser or just want to stream audio I usually choose that over a another instance of Opera.

One of the things I like about IE is that I belong to Aol, and at the top of IE there is an AOL toolbar that shows me if I have any mail, so it is a quick and easy way to check my mail, so I can be in the middle of doing something and without having to stop what I am doing or open a new tab to sign into AOL, I can just glance up at the toolbar to see if I have mail.
