So it looks like the battery on my computer went out

I went to unplug my computer earlier today to move over to the couch, when as soon as it was unplugged the computer went completely off. I have never had anything like that happen before, and it had been plugged in all day up until that point so I knew the battery could not be dead. Nor had it exhibited any other problems, I had in fact just used it on battery the other night.
At first I had thought maybe I accidentally hit the power button because after I unplugged it I leaned over the computer to get something on the desk. So I plugged it back in, turned it on again, and than when I went to unplug it it did the exact same thing once more.
I know that sometimes the AC adaptor can be a bit sensitive and more than once when I have just accidentally touched it or bumped into, it came loose and switched to battery, so I thought maybe it had just been running on battery without my realizing it, but if it had been on battery and got so low to the point of going out, I showed have been given a low battery warning.
But after plugging it back in and checking it said the battery was at like 5% or something, so I figured there was nothing to do now but let it charge and see what happens.
I frequently plug and unplug my computer as I migrate around the house from room to room and I know that it usually charges pretty fast, there have been times when I had ran it down to almost empty, plugged it in and than about 30 or so min's later unplugged it again and would have an adequate amount of batter restored to use it for sometime.
Well I was noticing this time that it seemed to be taken a longer time than usual to charge. By this evening it said it was only 14% charged after having been plugged in since around 1.
I wanted to move to the couch, and so I unplugged it once more and sure enough it went out again, and even with only 14% charged it should not have gone completely off.
So I began looking up the problem online, and it seems lots of people with HP's (Which is what I have) had the same problem with their computers, and in most cases it sounded like it was a problem with the battery, so I did a battery check on my computer, and sure enough it said there was a failure with the battery.
Needless to say computer batteries are expensive, and I do not actually travel around with my computer, there is nowhere in the house in which I cannot use it plugged in, (at least no where in which I actually would be using it) though it will be rather inconvenient, every time I want to move to another room to have to turn it off, unplug it, plug it back in and turn it on again, but still quite possible and at least I still have a usable working computer. I would like to be able to have a new battery for it, for convenience sake, but I just don't know when that will in fact be feasible.
