Halls of the Dark Muse

Seriously?

I have a couple of blogs with wordpress and though I do not update them on a regular basis, every now and than I will still have the sudden impulse and inspiration to post something in my blogs and one of them in spite of its not being regularly updated is still quite active and has a large viewership, being that it deals with topics which are popular these days. Primarily that of Vampires, Werewolves, Mythology, and themes relating to the Occult and the Gothic.

And the other blog is lesser known and has been dormant for some time because I keep forgetting to update it, and is dedicated predominantly to sharing my Pagan themed poetry and has a few other things.

So anyway, today I went to log into my Wordpress account and got a message saying my account had been suspended which I thought was quite strange, for I could not imagine any reason why. I had not received any notifications for having done anything wrong nor received any complaints.

At first I thought perhaps they had suspended my account for being inactive for such a period of time. I could not find anything on wordpress to explain the cause of what happened.

I went to open up my blogs to see if I could figure out something and the one more popular blog was still up and running with no indication of there being any problems with it, and when I tried to open my other blog I had a message saying that it was no longer active because it violated the Terms of Services but there was no specifications of how, and I could not possibly imagine what could have been in that blog to violate the rules.

As mentioned of above it considered predominantly of my own poetry and I did also post works by classical (now public domain) poets which I thought reflected Pagan themes, as example I posted some of Sappho's works, and I posted stuff by some of the Romantics. Nothing that was copywrite protected.

Sometimes I would post images to accompany the poetry, but again, the images I posted were either my own artwork, or classical works of art which are part of the public domain.

I cannot think of anything I could have posted on that blog which would be a violation of any copywrite laws, now can I possibly think of any of the content on the blog could violate any of the other rules. It just did not make sense to me.

Particularly since that blog I had not even updated in a long time and it hardly is even viewed by anyone and does not have a lot of activity.

And because my account was suspended though my other blog is still up and running and apparently without any problems I cannot log into my account at all so now I cannot have access to my blog that is still running.

So I sent a message to contact support on wordpress expressing my dismay on what possible rule my blog could have violated and asking them if they could explain to me, as well if they could allow me to sign back into my account so I still can access my other blog.

I haven't heard anything back yet as well they say that it can take up to three days for them to respond.

    DM- Another cliffhanger!

What the? You can't get in and there is nothing offensive posted? Seems like a technical thing. Did you go through the forum rules, anyway? I got into a bit of trouble on our forum for not being up on rules.

No, I cannot get in at all, and that particular blog is probably the least offensive thing I have online LOL. It is just poetry about my spiritual beliefs, but nothing I posted there was insulting to any one else's belief. And there is nothing I posted that violated any of the rules as near as I can figure.

The one thing which worried me is that someone else tried to claim that my work was their own, but I cannot imagine the site would just take their word for it without investigating the claim.

Hopefully I will hear back from them soon and have the issue cleared up, I will post an update on what happens.

The problem has been resolved. I had an e-mail from them this morning and apparently my blog was flagged by automatic spam controls and so they restored my blog and removed the suspension.

    I'm glad it's resolved Muse.

I do have a few related questions. I've been thinking about starting my own blog. Wordpress and Blogger are two of the most popular out there. Do you or anyone reading this blog know if one rates better than the other? Both offer free blogs but both also offer blogs for a fee. It's not an expensive fee, but still it's not free. What do you get for the ones you pay for and is it worth it? How can I get more information on them?

I actually have blogs with both Wordpress and Blogger, and there are things which I find good and bad on both sides. Some things I like better on wordpress and some things I like better on blogger.

The good things about wordpress is that they allow you to create categories, (If you cannot tell by this blog I do love categorization) and I find that wordpress draws in more traffic, there is a higher chance of people finding wordpress blog via google searchers than it seems with blogger.

One thing I like about blogger that wordress does not offer is that blogger allows free members more control over your template design. I did not even know that blogger offered paid accounts as well.

Both blogs allow members to create multiple different blogs.

If you go to wordpress.com you can compare the free features vs the added premium features to see what you get extra for the money. I myself only do free blogs.

Also I will mention that blogger is a part of google and so to create a blogger blog you have to first sign up for a google account if you do not already have one, though it really is not that big of a deal and will not have any affect on anything. And they never send you any annoying e-mails or anything.

Both blogs are I think equally easy to use and manage and they have similar features. Other than this most recent glitch I have not had any real technical problems with either wordpress or blogger, and well in this instant of this event, wordpress resolved the problem quickly. I have not had to use the help support of blogger so I cannot comment on how efficient it is.

Thanks a bunch DM. Actually now that you mention it, I'm not sure if Blogger has a fee option. I know Wordpress does. Your reply was helpful.

Glad I could help. I am pretty sure that Blogger is purely free. There is no info on their home page about premium accounts.
