I Lost Half My Soul

I Lost Half My Soul

I am broken
standing upon the shards of broken glass
I once believed
that I was bullet proof
and I watched the world
as it ricocheted away
while I remained unscathed
and laughing
at myself
and those whom once
believed they could
find the weak points in my armor casing,
but I caught a glimpse
of your reflection
in the mirror
staring through me,
and my eyes were yours.
My voice but a whisper
spoke with the weight
of a soprano's solo
the fractures slowly at first
than ever growing
spread like the veins of spider webs
and your image
began to fall away,
I could do nothing but watch
it sliding down the wall
erupting in so many
splintering shards
I would welcome the warm taste
of blood.
You who were like my shadow
and my soul,
have left me with this unfilled void,
and now when I try to seek
my reflection
like one of the dead
I know I will see nothing
but the hallow space
which once you occupied.

    Hmmm...

    Still no word then, Dark?

If I hadn't known the back story I might have thought it was about a ghost, but again perhaps it may be...

You are very perceptive! And no still no word.

The concept of this poem was inspired by the idea proposed by Aristophanes, that man was originally created as two people: man/man, female/female, man/female when the gods grew angry and split us in half so everyone had to live as only half a person and spend their lives seeking their other half so they may be complete again.
