Dog Park #6

Must have been that it was a cloudy day with intermittent sprinkles of rain that brought them all out. I arrived late as I cut my own lawn before the threat of rain became too real. It was about 9:30 AM and the first rain shower of the day had just passed when I arrived. The park was a tad under average for a Saturday morning….a dozen cars equaling about 12 to 15 dogs. I went to start checking the mutt mitts and ended up not leaving the front gates for the next hour plus. It seemed that I turned more folks and their dogs away then I left in. The number one reason was….Rule #1 “One thing that is enforced is your dog must have either a rabies tag, County dog tag or a County dog park tag. That is the fact, Jack…no acceptations to the rule as it protects the dogs and humans alike.”
A father approached the gates with two under aged children (must be 12) and a dog with no tags tried to enter. He claimed they had been here before and no one stopped them asking for tags or said his children were not allowed.
The Dpk gate troll responded “those are the rules and I am here now and I am not letting you enter.”
As he and his family turned to leave the one little girl asked,
“Daddy why can’t we go in?”
“Cuz the witch at the gate won’t let us.”
Sigh….
I had someone try to bribe me to leave them in…another was visiting friends down the street who are ‘members’ of the park and said it was OK for them to go. His daughter too was under age and when I told him of the $5 daily fee he balked and stormed away. It began to rain again….good I thought.
The parents of these young children don’t respect the strength of multiple dogs running and playing. These dogs don’t see you…today at one point I had a Bernese Mountain Dog, 3 great Danes, 2 Rottweiler, a Saint Bernard, an American Mastiff, and a few labs plus multiple other dogs playing their hearts out, wrestling, chasing, running and OFF LEASH. Unless you have been in the midst of dogs of this magnitude running free and at play you can not be aware of the danger you are in. In my short time here I have seen a number of people taken out by playing dogs.
That is why children are not allowed.
And the next blog ….why your dog must have proof of rabies.
The Bite.
