My Holiday Excitement

Generally speaking I am not given to be a curmendingly sort (about some things) I can tend to have a pretty laissez-faire, libertine attitude so even though all forms of fireworks and firecrackers are illegal in the area where I live, if people want to do it on the 4th of July I don't really have a problem with it, I say do your thing have fun knock yourself out (and if you do so literally well than your a moron and its no skin off my back).

But the one thing that does annoy me is that around here people seem to think that the 4th of the July is a month long event and it does piss me off having to listen to people set off fireworks before the 4th of July and after the 4th of July, especially sense the m80's which are literally sticks of dynamite are quite poplar here so this time of year it does sound a bit likes a war zone around here and feels like my house is under attack.

Well I was watching something about Jack the Ripper (of course) when I hear the sound of fire trucks, and I live right in the foothills so that means this time of year, there are lots of fields of dry grass so not surpassingly someone started a fire, what is surprising is that it hasn't happened more often. And at first I actually thought that it was someone's house on fire because it looked quite close though you couldn't see actual flames from my house you could see the red glow but than I finally decided the fire was out by the train tracks, which are pretty close and they are in an area of just wide open fields.

While there is still a fire burning people are still setting off fireworks and in the midst of while this was going on a bottle rocket ended up in our swimming pool so that was a bit irksome.

And the thing is that while I am not one to be shaking my fist and demand the law be enforced it is still illegal and yet the police seem to actually intentionally avoid having to do their job. This time of year they just go in hibernation so they won't have to deal with it. The use of fireworks around here is hardly subtle or discrete it is pretty blatant and obvious so if they did put any effort it in it at all they could probably actually find the people who are doing it. If they would just cruise around the neighborhood they would hear the massive explosions going off every 5 minutes.

While I really long to be able to set off some fireworks of my own, I do realize it is quite dangerous. People can be injured and fires started. That would not be allowed here: I guess the police have just decided to accept it there.

Yes, and while generally speaking if people want to do it to celebrate I don't mind, but it is a bit ridiculous that while there is a fire still burning, people kept doing it, you would think at least after a fire was started the police might think maybe they ought to at the very least make a presence of themselves and give the illusion that they are going to do something about it.

But no, even after the fire it kept going on all night with no sign of any cops anywhere in sight.

I'm just like you, DM. It is astounding how people have no common sense. I am usually very laid-back too, but when people take it too far I react. You'd think your location (being prone to fires) and an already burning fire would be enough to deter people, but I guess it is not.

On my fourth, I had to stay inside b/c my family was setting off illegal fireworks. They were shooting all over the place and I didn't want the little guy to loose an eye. When the real fireworks were set off, I still had to stay in the house. The baby was scared. Oh well.
