Halls of the Dark Muse

As most of you probably know from past posts and stories, my cat Zeo notoriously dislikes being locked in for the night, and because I know he is not the sort to wonder off or stray from the house I have allowed him to stay outside all night in which he generally doesn't leave the backyard.

You also probably know that raccoons are frequent visitors, and the cats and raccoons have always had a mutual understanding with each other. Being the cats are smart enough not to mess with the raccoons and the raccoons carry on thier business acting as if they are oblivious to the cats, and there have never been any problems.

The thing about Zeo is that he is really a lot like a lion. He is most of the time insufferably lazy, and doesn't want to put too much effort into anything. He is not a hunter becasue trying to catch a bird or a mouse would be way too much work for his taste but he can be a bit of a bully.

He is territorial and likes to assert his authority over other cats and establish his role as being dominant. There are times when he will go up to Demeter, my other cat and harass him for absolutely no reason. He once even kicked another cat out of its own yard.

Last night I hear all this noise outside and at first I think it is Zeo messing with Demeter again, so I go up to turn on the lights for the backyard to get him to leave the cat alone, and low and behold I discover that Zeo is trying to start a fight with a Raccoon. And I have no doubt that my cat was the instigator. The Raccoon was just trying to get a drink of water, when Zeo decided he needed to prove what a bad *** he was and it looked like the raccoon was acutally attempting to just run away but Zeo wanted to try and keep after him until I called him off and made him come to me.

So now he is no longer allowed to stay out all night for the time being.
