Teleporting Slugs?

Rate this Entry
Just before taking the dog out for her night time walk, at about 1:30am my mother comes in while I'm trying to knit a sakura pattern (I've been making a blanket for about 2 and a half years now, by knitting patches of 40x40 and sewing them together, my latest one is a cute sakura blossom.) She asks me to remove a slug from the kitchen while she takes the dog out. Eh? can't you see I'm tied up but what the hell. I finish the row I'm doing and scavenge a card box from the bin to scoop the little bugger up in. The slug is small and an ugly grey. It also looks kind of dry but it's alive. Moving all over it's....Back? Neck? Do they have necks? Not quite the head but not quite the middle. Well, moving over that bit are these little white things. I've seen them before on snails. I'm pretty sure they're alive, their movements are too erratic to be naturally occurring. What the heck are they? My highly uneducated guess is some kind of mite perhaps. I wonder if they're okay. I never used to see them and trust me I've picked up a lot of snails in my time. I've always loved snails. They're just such approachable things. Slugs however are unimaginably hideous. I'd gladly let a snail crawl....not crawl....slither...no they don't slither either. What the heck do they do? Climb. That'll do. I'd gladly hold a snail and let it climb up my arm but I'd never touch a slug. I think it's the shells. If snails didn't have shells I'd have nothing to grab. Anyway. I manage to scoop up this little slug and toss it out but when I look at the floor (half of my kitchen is tilled) I can't see any slime trail except for where it was when I scooped it up. So it got me wondering. If there's no slime trail how the heck did it get there? I doubt it fell. I checked the ceiling for slime trail, and the fridge. So, if it didn't use the floor or ceiling how the heck did it get there? How did it even get in? My only logical conclusion. It must have teleported somehow. Yes. That's totally believable isn't it. Ha. However, it's a pretty fun thought isn't it? Slugs teleporting here and there. It raises so many questions. How? Why? Was it naturally occurring? Was it genetically engineered? Could they be alien slugs? Could those mite things be the cause? Are the mites aliens? Like I said, I don't remember seeing those things when I was little. Either it teleported. Or the dog picked it up from somewhere else in the house and dropped it. That makes more sense. It's not the first slug we've had. A while before we got the dog we noticed a slime trail on the carpet in the kitchen. Soon after the dog arrived she ate a slug. We thought that was the end of it. I guess not. Oh. What if the slug she ate somehow laid eggs inside my dog and now they've hatched and she's crapping slugs. Well, if it's an alien slug who's to say it can't happen? What if the slugs are flesh eaters? After evicting that slug I can't help thinking about The Several Journeys of Reemus. Eh. My imagination goes crazy when I'm tired. Providing I don't think of something too frightening it's pretty fun. Only trouble is when I start imagining a horrible creature behind every door I get paranoid for no reason. In these situations I used to snuggle up with Eddie, my blue bear but I threw him out of my bed a while ago. Now when I get paranoid I put Zangetsu in my bead. It's the wooden sword I wanted to get at the expo. Normally he's at the end of my bed but if I get frightened I like to have him within easy reach so that if a burglar/rapist/murderer does get in I can knock the crap out of them. It's for a sense of security really. Well, more specifically it's the bankai form Tensa Zangetsu but I guess that doesn't really matter. Eh? How'd I get from slugs to bankai? Never mind.
Bluebiird out.
