Reflections on the puddle of life

Quirky reads?

Help!

Yes, it's me asking for assistance again. I'm in need of some reading advice. I started reading 'The Life and Times of Michael K' by J M Coetzee this morning and realised I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT! It's just to depressing and too hard going. What I'm in the mood for is the literary equivalent of Bjork or I (heart) Hukabees. Something quirky and a bit fun. Something like Richard Brautigan ( but not Richard Brautigan 'cos I've read everything he's written). Dilemma part 2 is that I need to be able to pick it up by speed raid of Waterstones tomorrow as I haven't really got time to to out tomorrow at all.

Fool by Christopher Moore. It's a comic retelling of King Lear, and it's hilarious.

    White teeth by Zadie Smith.

A visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan

Oh man, Fifth -- If you like those authors, you should really enjoy The River Why by David James Duncan. It's one of my all-time favorite quirky reads.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'll look all of those up. In the end I didn't have much time (energy) for reading whilst camping, though I did get through Clouds by Aristophanes which is supposed to be amusing and probably was to the Greeks but was a bit lost on me. It was nicer just to lie back in the grass and watch the actual clouds without the potty humour.

I'm reading something right now that is extremely quirky, though I think I've seen you mention that you've already read it. Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami. Boy is this quirky. Unfortunately quirky doesn't make it great, but it's ok in an average quirky way.
