Can Science Explain Everything?

Can Science Explain Everything?

Yes. Said the man.

No. Said the Philosopher.

Where is your evidence said the man?

I have none. Are my thoughts not good enough?

Can Science Explain Everything?

Yes. Said the Man.

No. Said the Mystic.

You can't Explain my subjective Experience.
You can never know whether my Experience of the Color Green is same as your Experience of the Color Green.

But I can Explain why you see the color Green - is that not good enough said the man?

And also suppose said the man, I am able to read your brain patterns and translate this into an image on display screen and you agreed that is the colour you are seeing?

Is that good enough?

:) I always figure it isn't a question of "can" science explain everything, but "should" science explain everything :D

Science answers the "how", you have to look elsewhere for the "why"...
I'm not sure who said that, but I think that's the truth to how much science can explain.

Everything is a pretty broad term

The undoubted success of science, and the great improvements it has effected upon countless lives does mask the developmental nature of it. is there a final word in science? - theories are constantly being modified - so truth in some cases is a relative idea.

It doesn't explain all human experience, though it does claim to do so - or rather science's proponents claim it does. For example, they are quick to equate mind and brain whereas the situation at the moment is that there are large aspects of consciousness that can't be explained yet.

How many of the threads really boil down to science v religion and a yes it is, no it isn't tennis game. There's room for debates, and there have been some good ones, but there has also been a bit of intransigence in some cases.

There is also an assumption that these debates are new, but in the case of the debate between death survival and annihilation at death, this was raging at least 2,500 years ago according to the Buddhist scriptures. No doubt it went on in other areas too.

    It's a laugh though!

I completely agree with Paul's reply. If we're talking about physics, perhaps some day it can all be explained. But no science cannot explain human personality. We are not mechanical devices.
