day in a life

those are the rules

Rate this Entry
life is an odd thing. we spend our days doing things that probably won't matter in the long run, wash our clothes and than get them dirty again. I look at someone like my mom who is happy when she is going out of her way to do something for me and my brothers or our kids. of course this makes her the best grandma to our kids without a doubt. I want to be happy for myself before I do it for everyone else. is that selfish? I sometimes use the airplane metaphor, you have to put the oxygen on yourself before your kid. my motto is to jump in puddles, the worst thing that will happen is that you will get wet but it is so much fun! I was going to a cafe a few months ago to meet my friends and it had been raining a lot I saw a puddle and I jumped in it, I didn't know how deep it was and I got so wet, I was wearing green jeans so it was really obvious but it was so fun and I laughed so hard and then walked into the cafe and had my coffee. You shouldn't forget all the fun things about being a kid!

those are the rules!

It's an excellent rule Helga. I love jumping in puddles.

You have to have happiness before you can start giving it to others. I don't think seeking to make yourself happy is selfish. Usually, I find, if you're a happy person you'll make other people happy without even trying.

What makes you think your mother isn't already happy or that happiness comes from her generosity? You're right, you have to be happy first before you can spread happiness to others, but I would say it's within the context of responsibility. Would you abandon your son if you thought that's where happiness was?

Virgil is right and so are the others. You do have to do things for yourself, but I'm sure you would not put yourself first to the detriment of your child, and I'm sure he benefits from your playful attitude to life.

I should hope so, since you are forever reflecting on them!
