day in a life

well today is the first day of Christmas here on the ice. Usually there is a big family fish meal on this day but today me and my boy will be celebrating Christmas and opening presents after dinner, that is usually done on the 24th but my boy will go to his dads house tomorrow at noon and will spend Christmas with him and his family. So we do it one day earlier, he is very happy to have two Christmases. he is so great in every way, this separation has been so easy because of him, he hasn't had any problems and is just a well adjusted kid. I told my co-workers yesterday that he was so happy telling everyone he will have 2Christmases and they where all like 'oh poor thing' WHAT ! WHY! he is happy why try and make it sad. I think I have become the spokesperson for separation and kids! if you do it in a nice way and don't treat each other badly or use the kids it dosen't have to be bad and it is my opinion (you may disagree) that problems with kids after divorce is traceable to the parents. not saying it won't affect the kids and of course it may be hard for them but if people stay nice and polite it makes all the difference!

anyway I will be working tomorrow night and on Christmas day and the day after that so my son will be with his dad until monday morning. I am gonna miss him but it's ok I will work more than usual and instead I'll get more days off around new year so it will be fun!

here on the ice we are very good at making more vacation days, we always have the second in Christmas and in Easter and a few more so it's good. Another thing we have that is not anywhere else is 13 Santa clauses! I did not misspell it's 13. the first one comes on the evening of December 11, and one every night 'till Christmas and kids put their shoe in the window and get a small gift in it everyday. they have parents that are trolls and they have a cat too, their mother is called Grýla and she eats naughty kids her cat is just called Jólakötturinn or the Christmas cat he eats the kids that don't get new clothes for Christmas but her husband Leppalúði just stays at home and dosen't really do anything. we have a lot of stories about this family and poems I read to my boy and he loves them. the santa clauses all have names that tell us what they do, because they used to be very bad and pulled pranks on the the people but now they are nice and give gifts. one stole candles and stole the meat and a lot more. we love reading about them.

well I will go now and try and do something with my boy, the presents are driving him crazy!!!
