I have a dog

Ok, like most of you know I have a dog named Spock. He is 9 years old and he is probably my best friend. He has been with me through good times and bad and I love him so much. I give him raw food so I make his food myself and I know every single ingredient, nothing he dosen't need in it, just the vitamins and proteins he needs, also it tastes yummy. I have a pretty big garden, closed so he can stay outside with no worries, I take him for walks (could do that a bit more often though) and take him outside of town so he can run free, he often meets other dogs and plays with them. I think of my self as a pretty good owner.

There is a dog in my friends neighbourhood, her name is Molly. she is a mixed breed of a collie and something else. She is around two years old. All her life she has been left outside in the garden on a short lease for about 14 hours at a time. when she is inside she is in the garage, it is not heated and she is in a chain that is about one meter long. They give her cat food. A 12 year old girl is allowed to take her for walks and when she came to see her two days ago her water bowl was frozen. She has nothing to lay on except the cement floor. It has been really cold here in the last few days. The girls step mom took the dog one morning and returned it about 14 hours later, she had to hold the dog when she was putting her back because she didn't want to go inside again.the owner, didn't notice she was gone, she has no muscles she is so skinny. in these conditions I don't think she'll live the winter.

there are no laws! there are no laws here on the ice about this! you can't take a dog from his owner! NO LAWS. There is a man that picks up stray dogs and finds their owners and he has been checking her out, he knows that I am willing to take her and give her a better home. he has tried everything, the vet that is supposed to look into matters like this says he is too busy. Also he said nothing about a place that is just like Puppy mills and treats dogs badly and many come sick from them and die within a few months. There are no laws! I don't get it.

I can't think about poor Molly without getting tears in my eyes. The man who has been looking into this is going to talk to the owner and ask him to let him take the dog and give him a better home, I hope it will work out cause I don't think I can get another dog knowing that she needs a home, I hope I don't have to wait to long and I can give her a warm home, she is so pretty.

I woke up at 5 am thinking about her. I hope I'll know something more in a few days.

Grrrr! Such despicable people make me furious, like nothing else can! You don't have anything like an SPCA over there that you can report abusive owners to? I sure hope you and this man will be able to help her!

that is the worst part the animal rights law here are out of date and there is no punishment.there is a citation where it is said that you need to have a few things if you want to have an animal like fresh water and a shelter but if you don't do this they can't do anything. I asked a dog trainer and she said that she has never heard of a case in iceland where a dog was taken away from his owner!

we definetly need clear laws here on the ice about animals

I've seen that laws have a chance only when a group of firmly determined people push a congressman to work on such laws. It's like there's a need to start a revolution, so to speak, in a democratic sense of the term of course. Then again, it demands time and effort. You may meet other people interested in the problem, then find a congressman or similar government official who may be interested in taking action, and if none of them is interested then you would have the problem of trying to convince them. The more you are the better chances you'll have to be listened to, but of course, any person involved in this will face a lot of troubles. Anyways, I think the now unprotected animals are worth the effort and will widely appreciate it. My humble take.

    It is a heartbreaking situation.
Yesterday, a neighbor with 4 adult pit bulls
had 3 of them attack the 4th. Before they
could be separated they killed the poor dog.
Some people should not be allowed to keep
pets. I also question the worth of some
breeds that are so prone to such violent
reaction. It could have been a child. As Max
says, there must be a way to influence the
adoption of laws that address this sort of
    thing.
